Lucky you, my dealer charged more than that for some reason, i guess cause it comes with washers and **** that porbably cost 10 bucks a pop or some obscene amt of moola. Anywhoo......i changed mine.

umm no matter what you do, your gonna spill gas.....a nice amt heh.....disconnect the battery (neg), umm one of the bolts is a pain to get to, but after that it's all good.....pretty straight forward, esp if you have the Helm's right next to you......

Enjoy.

I did it on my old GSR. It's pretty easy, simply unbolt the top bolt which has the one of thouse bolts that allows full to flow through it (its hollow, forgot the name). Then loosen the braket off the fire wall that holds the filter, then lossen the tube that goes into the botton of it (metal tube). Bolt the new one in, pretty simple. I can scan some pages in the manual on monday if you want. Its been a while, so I might be off on a few details, but I do remember no special tools were needed.

Thanks. I read post where I have to remove the battery and so on. I don't have the Helms manual. It seems there is a back order for it for so long now. I cant even find one on ebay so I am relying on posts such as here.

So are you saying that I remove the "whole" thing out of the firewall?
Does the manual say anything about fuel pressure? etc.?

Ricehornet: How bad of a fuel spill should I be expecting?
I looked at it and I notice that I don't think I have to remove the battery.

Thanks guys.

Oops..my bad.
Sorry Ricehornet. You wrote disconnect the negative terminal. Not remove the battery. I should read more carefully.

the fuel filter for integra does not need to be replaced.
they are good for the life of the car, unless you accidentally fuel up w/ diesel; then the tank needs flushing and the fuel filter needs replacement

this i know for a fact being a honda/acura tech

ps: 1995-up honda/acura has lifetime fuel filters. thats why one end has a bolt and the inlet(bottom) has a pipe fitting. do not attempt to use regular wrench to lossen this fitting. it will strip: use a 14mm flare nut/line wrench

Sure, "ps: 1995-up honda/acura has lifetime fuel filters. thats why one end has a bolt and the inlet(bottom) has a pipe fitting. do not attempt to use regular wrench to lossen this fitting. it will strip: use a 14mm flare nut/line wrench" My wife's '91 has the same thing as does my '94.

"the fuel filter for integra does not need to be replaced.
they are good for the life of the car" News to me, never heard of a lifetime filter for anything. Does this mean that my '94 is a lifetime filter as well since it's the same part number as a '95? And if so, then why does the "Acura Service Manual" require replacement of the filter at 60K miles?

"unless you accidentally fuel up w/ diesel; then the tank needs flushing and the fuel filter needs replacement" You forgot to replace the injectors, and or clean the fuel lines, and fuel rail, replace the O2 sensor, and the cat.

How about the PCV valve? I was wondering about this too since I can't find any info in the manual about replacing fuel filters nor the PCV valve. Thanks for info.

Acutally, I read somewhere in the manuals also that the fuel filter do not need replacing if you pump gas constantly in a area that gets replensihed constantly, like a big city. However, I wouldn't recommend this, get the fuel filter replace every 60k. It's a good investment.

And if the OEM is too high in price, get one aftermarket, just make sure it's from a namebrand company and you should be ok.

Don't know for sure on a '98. I only own and have manuals for '91 and '94. But, the '94 manual says to inspect the PCV at 60K. And, here's how to inspect it right out of the shop manual, verbatum, "if clicking sound is heard as you pinch the hose between the PCV valve and the intake manifold, valve is OK." When you say that you can't find any info about these things in the manual, are you talking about the "Owners manual"?

I got one from A&H Motorsports for like $16, but you'd better buy other things too b/c the shipping is gonna cost ya.

Yeah. I meant the Owners Manual. It does not say anything about fuel filter nor PCV valve. It from a 98 Integra Owners Manual. Can't seem to find a place to buy a Helm.

Go to your dealer, they should be able to help you. I think, I paid $60 for each of my manuals, it's well worth it.

it is a known fact that Honda/Acura dealer technicians usually know very little. Filters do clog!! Stock fuel filters do NOT last forever. Please tell us what the life of the car is supposed to be. I guess we are all supposed to buy a new car every two years or something.

A flare wrench is not needed to remove the filter. All you have to do is open the pressure relief nut with proper sized 6pt wrench. Make sure you have a shop towel handy because a small amount of fuel will escape with the air released. Then use the correct size box wrench to remove the fuel outlet banjo on the top of the filter. The new filter should come with new washers so remember to place a washer on both sides on the banjo during installation of the new filter. Remove the filter retaining bracket. Use the proper sized box wrenches to remove the filter inlet on the bottom of the filter, keep the shop towel handy for leaks. Two are required.. one for the filter and one for the sleeve nut on the line. Reverse this process for re-assembly. If my Japanese GF can do this on her car anybody can perform this maintenance task. Don't forget about the banjo washer placment because you WILL get a leak if one washer is misplaced.

Don't be cheap and lazy, change yer filter!!! Only 15 from A&H Motor.

While you are at it, change the PCV valve too, I read somewhere you change it every 10k, but that might be overkill. Either way you can't really lose out on much it only costs like 3 dollars. Gives you 5 HP too...

You should first take the filler cap off of the gas tank to relieve any pressure in the tank, this will minamize pressure down the line. Which will in turn lessen the fuel leaking when you loosen the banjo blot at the fuel filter.

hey,

first tell me how many miles you have on youre car.
but before you answer i'll tell you now to replace it if no already done so.
first get a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual for about 15 bucks at kragens pep boys HONDA maybe, and sit on youre toliet and read. if you dont feel like reading or buying the book, i'll tell you how to change it, but its not really detailed because i do not own an integra

1: open the gas cap to vent and depressurise the gas tank so it wont spit fuel on youre ground when you take out the fuel filter.
keep the gas cap off.

2: remove EFI or fuel pump fuse from where ever it is located on the car.

3: try to turn youre car on, it should not start but will crank. crank the engine for about 8 seconds or so to let the fuel pressure drop to near zero, this way you will have minimal amount of fuel on youre driveway when you take the filter off.

4: take the banjo bolt off where the fuel line goes to the charcol canister then to the fuel rail, usually insulated with some type of foam. also visiable from the top, its the big bolt when you look at the fuel filter.

5: oh yea after step 3, very important, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, or both doesnt matter, but first the negative must come off.

6: i think there is a fuel line at the bottem of the fuel filter, remove it with an tubing wrench and have a drain pan underneath the car cause fuel thats in the fuel filter will spill out.

7: and last, there should be two small bolts on the side of the fuel filter, those are the bolts that hold the fuel filter with a help of a clamp.

this isnt a really detailed description on how to take the fuel filter off, but i no it'll help, i hope it helps. have fun if you have not already done so.

Thanks. I did find a Haynes manual for around $14 online. I'll print this thread for reference.

hey jl74, I notice you are in Hayward, I'm in SF. Considering the area that we live in, you shouldn't have a problem finding a shop that can change you fuel filter for cheap or a very low price. I had a local shop by my house change the fuel filter on my former car, a 2nd generation integra for $20. Yes $20. I bought him the fuel filter and the place changed it for me for $20. I pretty sure this price is rare but most shop will probably charge about a half a hour labor to change the fuel filter on a Integra, it only takes 15 min or less if you know what you are doing. And if I remember correctly, the 2rd and 3rd Integra fuel filters are located at the exact same spot as each other and may also be the same fuel filter.

Just look around, call around a few small independent repair shop, offer to bring you own fuel filter if you can't wait. It cost abour $15 at Kragen.

But looking at you sign, you have a 98 GSR, you probably don't need a fuel filter replacement so fast. If I were you, just go out and buy a bottle of STP Complete fuel system cleaner or one from a reputable compay. I'm pretty sure you don't need a fuel filter change so early for a 98GSR, unless you are pumping 87Octane Unlead constantly for your GSR.............

What does fuel ROM have to do with dirty fuel?

Kinda off the subject but I had to change the fuel filter for my 1998 turbo GSR. Instead of getting the stock one, I decided that I wanted to upgrade my fuel filter with the AEM one.

Not only it looks kinda cool but I immediately notice the performance difference. The car behaved a lot smoother. I am no expert acura tech but I believe that it is a good investment. However it costs really super expensive ($90+) and it might not be a feasible purchase. But if you are force inducted or squeezing, you might wanna try with a higher flowing fuel filter.

$20 for changing the fuel filter... dont do it... its easy and u can spend the money elsewhere... once u changethe filter u realize how easy it is and would thank yourself for doing it yourself... first time i did it i was worried about ******* something up... just dont smoke around it and dont let anything spark... and ull be fine... and if u dont have tools... spend the $20 on some!!!

Holy crap, $90 for a filter? Does that thing have a way to clean it like K&N or something, or are you going to drop another $90 down the road?

Lower Octane fuel = dirtier fuel, and also lower octane fuel doesn't burn up as cleanly and completely.
