What happens to your insurance when your car gets stolen?
I've been wondering about this. Do your insurance rates get jacked? Do insurance companies drop you?
Seems like a real issue for us ITR owners.

they cant jack your rates for something you have no control over, its not like you caused your car to get stolen...although I do believe they can drop you, because if your car keeps getting stolen multiple times, then you are a risk and they will drop you...

I can tell you from experience... They can jack up your rate tremendously.
Now of-course this is relative to several factors: Age, driving record, moving violations, current number of claims, (within the last year) etc. ...but when my first R was stolen, it counted as a "claim", not considering that it was out of my control, I became a "high risk driver". Now keep in mind I have ZERO speeding tickets or moving violations. Essentially it is up to the discretion of the agent and agency. -but rule of thumb may dictate the simple fact that your insurance company will try to, ...and rightly so, attempt to be compensated for the loss of paying out for your stolen auto. My insurance went from a reasonable 170 per mo. to 780 per mo. This is an extreme case however because of the yearly announcement regarding Integra theft rate in Houston, but the simple rule applied... I got jacked.
I immediately dropped insurance to look for another agent. I found a company that "considers" claims, meaning they cut you slack with the understanding you have no control over the fact that your car was stolen. The resulting monthly rate was 220 per mo.
Multiple claims are another story. In Houston, and probably the state of Texas, three claims is the thresh-hold before rates become silly high. If this is the case, expect your rate will jump 2-3 fold.

they increase your rate of course.
its your fault apparently in their eyes.
they are a business.
whole point of business is to make money.
when they have to cut you a check for 20k or so, they will take it back from you, slowly but surely.

Not necessarily so. USAA doesn't raise on no fault thefts. I know, because they cut me a check for $24,600 three weeks after my 6 week-old ITR was stolen. USAA

Nope. My granfather was a Vice Admiral in the Navy, and the insurance from his service is eligible to me and my children (when I have some), after which point we will be too far removed from the military to continue using it. No immediate family in military=no USAA.
