Please help me (newb)
im am 15, ill hopefully get my liscense in oct 2003. i want to learn about car tuning and doing modifications. But really, there is no place to learn. All the sites dont give information to learners, and all the forums have people talking so advanced that i dont know what the hell theire talking about most of the time. i understand teh BASICS of tuning, but its not enough. i was here about 1-2 months ago, and someone told me to go to howstuffworks.com . i went, learned some basiscs about car engines n stuff. I might get a integra, if i can find a good gs with low miles and a good price (under $11,000).
so, can someone plz tell me where to learn about tuning? i cant read the forums becuase its hard to understand what people are talking about.
i know to start, i should start with intake (air filter, cat back, intake, headers) but i dont know the specific information. can some please help me? and what are some good mods u think I should start doing after i get my car? It must be under 600$. and im not talking about turbos since the wear on the engine. thanks alot guys
btw: i met someone here on xbox live, they gave me this site but i forgot thier gamertag. post if u remember me!

Cam shafts, you can score a set from 400 (civic\integra type-r) to 650-700 (skunk2 stage I-III).
Pick up some books if you really want to learn some stuff, or just hang around here and you'll pick up on a thing or two.

wow your askin for alot...umm...the only thing you can do is ask as you go...when you come upon a problem..thats what this place is for...its kinda hard to give you the run down of tuning..when tuning is so universal..and there are millions of diffent things that can be covered...die to different situations and blah blah blah...but yes intake header exahust...all good starter stuff..i dont concider this tuning...but if your ganna get a teg...save alil more and with that 6bills SLAM it...
welcome.....

welcome to tha board. Its commendable to humble urself and ask for help... its somethign i sometimes have a hard time doing myself. I have learned a whole lot since joining this webboard.. its a great online community to learn things about your car and get to know alot of people as well. i understand that it may be hard to decipher some of the threads posted on this board.. hell i was intimidated by this site as well, until honda-acura.net crashed and i switched over. Jus patiently keep readin.. and u will learn. As for a more article based resource for learnin stuff bout integras.. go to team-integra.net where they have some great articles on alot of things pertaining to the integra. And speedoptions.com also had a series of articles written by mike kojima a long time ago that are still available there that were really great. Read those.
Hope that helps.
Eric.

and for $11,000 have you thought about maybe a 94-95 GS-R?</TD></TR></TABLE>
yea, think about GS-R definiely. I got my 94 for $7500. only 62k miles on it at the time. (guy was movin, had to sell
) But you should definitely consider going with a GS-R

if your doing it the ghetto way and dont work and try to mod a car its not going to come outr well. but if your going to do it buy just the filter and reaserch making your own CAI for half teh price and from experience i cqan say your first car will be beaten so id keep the t bird kil it a bit then sell it and get a 90-93 GSR the insurance will be lower plus comon the DA9 is way nicer than DC2

The BEST way to learn about cars is to actually work on them, either watch or help someone work, or tinker around yourself. I have never taken an autoshop class, but I can swap an engine, pull a head, change a clutch, all from reading my repair manuals, watching, and actually doing it.
Patrick,
so, if u want to color ur rims,
u need to use sand paper to smooth it out. then u just clean it so its smooth. then u just paint over with a spray bottle u get from pep boys? and u use cards to protect the wheel.
is there anything else i am missing?

Check out the articles on http://www.team-integra.net. They have so much info. on "tuning" it's unreal. Start w/intake. Then headers and catback. Instead of trying to make your own intake, get on ebay and get a cold air, or ram air. Check the sellers feedback first, and if it's good buy it. I got my cold air w/shipping for $50. Then go to any local auto store and buy a K&N filter, ebay filters suck. I was in your position about 3 months ago and now I can do most anything. The first step is to read up, and then get some hands on experience. Welcome to H-T.
