(I swear you were talking about this in a previous post...)
Y'know, I've actually heard that the Michelins you buy from stores are better than the ones that come stock on our cars...does anyone know if this is true?
As for other tires, there's a lot more gooder (my engrish is horribre) choices. Perhaps the shop was referring to the Toyo FZ4s. Now those tires are crap. Don't bother with them.
Dunlop SP8000. That's all you need.

Choose the tire model wisely. But, rather than the recommended OEM size, step up to a 205/50/15. You'll get roughly the same overall diameter, but a better contact patch (wider tire), for better traction.

Yes, a 6 inch wide rim is enough for a 205 tire...I also agree that you should go for that size...(205-50R15)
Dont buy the OEM Michelin, they are the worst tires I've ever seen...
And yes the Toyo FZ4s suck...They are low profile tire but very far from a high performance tire...If you want toyos get the t1-s, I have them on my Type R and so far very satisfied...

When I bought the car I sold the RE010 the a friend...I wanted 205-50R15. To be honest, I don't think my toyos are any better than the OEM RE010 (better in the wet though), but they are the size that I wanted.
As far as the life of the tires go, I think they will last longer than a set of RE010...However I beleive the performance of the tire will decline a lot before the end of the tread (to much eat cycle) and I will have to change them even if there is still some tread...My guess is around 15k miles max(street only), after that they will start to suck...
But like I said, so far Im very satisfied...
One thing you should know though: a 205-50R15 tire is about 2% smaller than a 195-55R15. That means the speed shown will be off 2%...That don't matter to me.

205/50/15 will fit fine on the stock rims. You could probably even squeeze a 215/45/15 or a 225/40/15 if you can find the sizes, but I haven't tried, personally.
If you want a summer tire for not too much money, get the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s, they're about $59 a tire. You can also get Yokohama AVS Intermediates for about $64 a tire. If money isn't a problem, you could also go for the Pirelli P7000's, which are $71 a tire. These are all fine tires, each with their own merits, but are all pretty good for good grip vs. treadwear. Prices indicated are all for the 205/50/15 size, from http://www.tirerack.com.
I just ordered a set of 205/50VR15 Falken Azenis from http://www.vulcantire.com for $60 a tire - I can't recommend them since I've never tried them before, but I've heard they're grippy for street tires.
Keep in mind the tires listed here are summer tires which all perform somewhat well in the rain, but are not all-season tires (unless you live in CA, haha).
