Default New sub sounds killer!

I just got a new JL 10" sub and alpine amp installed just under $600 and it sounds so much better. on my '02 RSX-S. I'm thinking of upgrading front speakers with JL and alpine amp for around $750. It seems a little high but I love JLs....they sound superb. I'm not sure I need a separate amp to drive them. Amp itself costs almost $300 but the sales guy swears it will make a world of difference. Anyone else have a JL set-up?

bah. jl = not that great.

their subs are okay, but there are better. image dynamics for one. focal makes far far far superior components, and their subs are better as well.

I personally like my sub - eclipse 8712.4, one of the best sounding subs in it's category, it's in a box tuned to 20hz so there isn't a bass note it can't nail.

Definitely amp your interior speakers. I am running 80x2 for my speakers right now (i don't have rear speakers), they can actually keep up with the 400watts the sub pounds out.

I dunno if you have to spend 300$ on the amp though. check out u.s. acoustics - really quality stuff for not a lot of $$$. i'm really happy with my usx2080. they have good power output, and very flexible crossovers, and my amp cost me ~80 bucks shipped. It's almsot as good as the eclipse amp that powers my sub as far as noise goes.

If you ask me I think image dynamics are the best subs to get. I dont currently have image dynamic subs but the ID MAX 12 they make is purely insane. PUt one of those in your car and you would be amazed. I bought the image dynamic componenents and all I have to say is WOW!!! WAY WORTH IT!!! If you have strong hitting subs in your car components are a must to keep up with all that bass!

Do you think amping stock speakers will improve sound quality that much? For front components, I'm thinking of going with MB Quart maybe, but it sure is expensive. $895 for top of line, just for speakers, not including amp. I listened to 10" JL sub next to a few others and it just seems to sound tighter to me...not as much boom but I don't want that. I know I probably overpaid a little but oh well...they are a reputable car audio/video retailer in St. louis.

I have yet to hear the focal sub. It seems flimsy though. I can deform it by pressing the cone pretty easily. That is really all I can say until I hear it in action. I don't think I will replace my tdx with one of them though.

The stock speakers will sound better with an amp. Don't push them too hard though, they will blow. Crossed at 80, you can probably get descent volume out of them though.

Do you have to get the top of the line MB Quarts? Have you ever heard them? Go out and audition, you can do MUCH MUCH better for far less than $800.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Revtoredline &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I listened to 10" JL sub next to a few others and it just seems to sound tighter to me...not as much boom but I don't want that. </TD></TR></TABLE>

This is more dependent on the enclosure than the sub.

Jl XR compoents are great!! well worth the money. Also you might want to look into Adire Koda compoents. http://www.adireaudio.com

Jl w7 sub is probably one of the best subs out there in terms on SQ and SPL. Other players are IDmax, Adire Brahma.
