Default vtec problems

i was thinking while at work today that maybe my oil pump is starting to go bad. my vtec doesnt seem to work untill about 6500 rpm's. i just put the engine in and set the vtec for 5200rpm's. i know it is activated then cause i hooked a light up to the vtec wire and it comes on at 5200, but my power falls off around 5k and it almost feels like a small shot of nos around 6500. maybe at 6500 there is enough oil pressure to engage the vtec?

was your car warmed up and did it have oil at the time? it might be that your'e not getting enough fuel for vtec. how are you setting vtec, with a VAFC?

There's a good chance that your tach is a little off, along with the oil pressure.
