9.5" to 10.2" brake conversion, are steering knuckles REALLY needed?
Ok, I just got done with the Fastbrake kit, and am very impressed. When I was picking up calipers at the bone yard, I got an extra set of brackets. Anyway, I was just in the garage comparing the stock 9.5" caliper bracket to the 10.2" bracket, and here's what I noticed. The bolt holes line up exactly, and the pins the calipers float on are about a quarter inch or so further away from the axle on the 10.2" bracket. This has me wondering if it is really nessecary to change the steering knuckle or not to goto 10.2" brakes on a Rex? It looks like it will work with the current knuckle. Has anyone tried this, or is everyone assuming 90-91ex because that car came with big brakes? If no one has tried it, I think our SD group has enough parts to try this combo, and I'll investigate it. IMHO 4 wheel disk, especially 11" up front works ^%&*^( great! We're talking eyeballs smacking the windshield power here, and very controllable.
whats up mark, we should try and piece stuff together and see what happens. want to buy me a rear disk brake conversion? jk
i put 10.2 on the front of a std hatch with no problem . get a little longer bolt and use spacers to line it up with the disc
can anyone explain to me really quick what the steering knuckle is? is it the arm that extends up, the arm that extends to the side towards the axel, or if neither of those what is it?
Hello Mark, I think I met you once at the SD CRX meet and drive to Julian and then to the Bisltein factory back in 2002, were you there? Well from what I was told it is better to go with the 90-91 EX knuckle but if you experiment and find out you don't really need to do that, let us know.
