THE NEW INTEGRA HYPE
Man I don't get you people at all. The new RSX is a pile, after 7 years of R&D this is the best Honda can do? Friggin i-vtec you guys who buy one will be lucky if they can develop an air intake for that thing. Second, I consider the major appeal of the Honda line of cars is their wishbone set-up, so they get rid of it
Also by now that dam thing must be up to OBD5, it's a friggin Macintosh on wheels. I am not a Toyota or Subaru guy but crap you gotta give them credit for making cars that are somewhat mod able. I am pissed cause we all wait 7 years, for something that IMO looks gay and selling the Type-S for like 25-27K. I would just say it is my oppinion but I remember at the LA autoshow, on the RSX debut. Of the 500 people I saw look at the car, *NOT 1* walked away happy. There is no doubt that Honda is a world class company with first rate quality, but ****......come on! Case in point: Look at the new 240z next year, 260hp, rear wheel drive and full wishbone suspension all for under $30k, now look at the POS RSX about the same price as the 240
ummmmmmmmmmmm duh..... I wonder which one I would get? If Hondas got something under their sleeves they better pull it out soon. If you think the RSX will be modable anytime soon just call AEM, HKS or Jackson racing. *I AM NOT TRYING TO START A FLAME BATTLE WITH ANYONE EXCEPT FOR HONDA* "The best car in 2001 will be my 95 VTEC"

Yeah I agree, this car is a big disappointment in many aspects, however I will defend Honda on a couple of points.
1. The suspension. BMW uses it and it works well for them. Plus all the magazines seem to say the handling is better. And I read that Honda will eventually go back to double wishbone.
2. The 240 is undoubtedly a great car, and much faster in many aspects. But it is much more low-tech than the new rsx. The new K series engine is a brand new from the ground up engine, whereas the 240 uses a refined version of the SR engines, a block that is a decade old as I recall. Plus it's use of turbo just makes it easy to put out that much power. Honda simply doesn't use turbo, so you'll never get that kind out power stock from a Honda.
I guess what I'm trying to say is since the RSX is new from the ground up, it cost more to make, whereas the 240 is somewhat of a carry over, reusing many parts, making it cheaper to make.
Plus sticker of the RSX-S is 23-24, not the 27 you mentioned...

I agree with Elin,
It seems to me that Honda did exaclty what Acura said they wanted.
For the Integra to GROW UP. Why they want it to grow up is beyond me. In the rest of the world its the new Integra so luxury and what-not doesnt really fit in. To us, Acura can say its more luxurious because its in the Acura line-up. It almost seems like they want to get away from the Import Scene... I mean, did you guys see the new 2002 Si? That thing is HIDEOUS!! Shifter rally style? I dont think so!!!! People complain about no arm rest on the RSX....wait till you buy the 2002 si!!!!
Anyways, I am positive the RSX will be a great driving car and what-not, but the nice low, sleek smooth looking Integra is no more.....

My current biggest gripe about the RSX is it's looks. I think Acura is just trying too hard to please the yuppie crowd and the midlife-crisis-on-up folks who wouldn't have bought the Integra because compared to the rest of the Acura line (exception: NSX) it was the kid who always sneaked off to smoke in the boy's room during school. The only RSX I've really liked the looks of are the concept RSX Type R pics I've seen. Personally, I would have preferred bringing the look of the JDM ITR to the states for the new Acuras.
The other features are a "wait-and-see" thing for me. The engine on paper is pretty impressive, and if the same people who own Integras end up buying the RSX, I think we'll see mods. Honda knows all about the modding crowd. Everyone bitches about the suspension, but every car mag review I've seen says it's better, so I think it's something to wait on.
On the plus side, Honda made the car much less noisy, too. I have to turn my stereo up higher than I'd like to drown out the noise of my GSR, so this is a plus. I can't wait to try out the 6spd gearbox.
I won't be buying an RSX, when it's out....don't have the money, or at this point, the desire (an `01 ITR would take first place over it, had I the budget). But Honda has a tradition of listening to us folks when we ask for something. We can always hope they listen again.
P.S. What really saddens me is the death of the Prelude. I know it hasn't been selling as well as it used to, but I think that just calls for some design work, not scrapping it. She'll be sorely missed.

I tell you what - say what you will about the RSX, but at least they kept it somewhat true to the Integra roots - sporty, cheap (for a honda), and performance oriented. How would you feel if they pulled a Mitsubishi and screwed the enthusiasts over? The Eclipse AWD turbo was a great car for the money, and they went and turned it into a "sporty touring car" to attract "upscale twentysomething" buyers. Honda did try and cater this car toward more of the "upscale acura" market, but they did it well, I think.. They kept the sportiness of the car and added a few new items - most importantly, a 6 speed and a 200hp 2 liter 4 cyl - not bad at all.
Say what you will about the new suspension, but imitating the handling characteristics of BMW cars is certainly not a bad idea. BMW suspension is some of the finest in the world - hell, my friend's 1988 BMW M3 will outhandle most new "sports" cars... Don't judge it til you drive it. =]
As far as the looks - some people have been complaining about the high roofline.. I read somewhere that it's like that so that drivers who track / autox their cars will be able to sit comfortably in the drivers seat with a helmet - if you're 6'4", you may have some troubles on that, but time will tell.
Change isn't always bad. I know I hated the MR2 Spyder design when I saw it, and I also currently hate the new 240z design, but give it time. Car designs have a way of growing on you... or not. (Aztec, anyone?)
PS - The aftermarket parts manufacturers will have parts for this car sooner than you think.

MR2 Spyder..(cough cough, poor man's porsche) Ok just kidding, it kinda reminds me of that though...
As for the Aztec..hmmm...still not yet....
Now I never said I hated the RSX not that you implied anything to me about it. But my opinions on it are that its BLAND. Handling wise, I will beleive whatever the magazines say, if they say it outhandles our current Teg, then I will beleive them being that ALL of them have test drove it with the same response's.
Yes, the higher roof line will help taller people, but that still kinda sucks, it loses its low sleek style. Remember, this is a japanese car, most of us asian's are short....hehehe... dont flame me please just a joke....have some humor....

To the topic creator...
I didn't see this post, but I had a chance to drive an RSX, look for it in this forum. As far as the struts go, remember, Porsche also has used them on the 911 since its inception. I guess they work. Yes I love the double-wishbone setup as well, but a strut is so much simpler in the grand scheme of things. Remember, an automaker doesn't just have designers and engineers. They also have accountants and auditors. If you don't like it, I encourage you to do the following:
1 Go enroll in a lot of business/finance/management courses in a college,
2 Get your masters
3 Start a company
4 Produce results
5 Then apply to Honda as an executive
6 Fire the auditors (they can always go work at the IRS)
7 Enroll the accountants in Skip Barbers School
8 Make decisions on new products based on what you want to see
9 Give the go ahead to the designers and engineers
10 Be happy
As a high school teacher by profession (I'm 27 years old, so I'm not an old fart yet) I encounter many kids who exhibit the defeatist attitude about not being able to change their lives. Each year around graduation, I provide my seniors with a personalized letter of recommendation that they can use along with their resumes... If you would like a letter as well, please let me know.
Nothing personal, just some professional advice because you seem to be quite upset about the new car when you really don't need to.

Damn. You can't even buy the car yet and people are all ready criticizing it. I can understand if you don't like the looks but when you start trashing the i-vtec and the fact that you don't think you can fit an aftermarket intake in there..........wait a minute now. And all this crying about the suspension....give me a break. Why don't you wait until you actually drive the car before you start comparing it. Porsche uses the MacPherson strut, I'm sure they know what they're doing. Basically, all I'm saying is, criticize the looks all you want, but as far as everything else goes.....what the hell do you know.
I've noticed a lot of talk for and against (more against) the new front strut suspension on the RSX. With that the defense has been pointing out the success that BMW and Porsche have had using the same setup. Wouldn't the VW strut suspension be a better example, seeing as how these cars i.e. Golfs and Jettas, are FF layouts, like the RSX? As for aftermarket potential, it'll just take some time to develop, with the main factor being market demand. If the RSX is a strong seller in the first 2 years, the aftermarket industry will take notice and find a way to make intakes, headers, etc. work.
Change isn't always bad. I know I hated the MR2 Spyder design when I saw it, and I also currently hate the new 240z design, but give it time. Car designs have a way of growing on you... or not. (Aztec, anyone?)

Haven't driving the RSX just yet, so I can't say anything... As for the Z-Prototype... why are you guys calling it the 240z? If you follow Nissan, this new one SHOULD be called the 350Z. The 240 utilized a 2.4 liter 6, the 300zx a 3.0 liter 6... Thus, this new one with a 3.5 liter... obviously.
I'll vent about the RSX after I drive it.

hey Halo,
first of all i think you are stupid. the rsx type S is on sale for around $23,650.00 no 25k - 27k. and what is this thing about developing an air intake box for it? the hell are you talking about? there is already an air intake box on it, maybe you ment an aftermarket intake like AEM or Iceman, someshit like that, is that what you ment? if so why would it be so hard to make one for it? the celica is jus as cramed in the engine compartment like the rsx. Double wishbone suspension, why do you think its better? jus cause more metal is needed? if youre basing it on that then you are one of the stupidest people that talks about cars, cause first you dont no nothing about car and how they work. i bet you no what mods or parts are good for a certian car, but i bet you cant even name the 4 stroke cycle from the top of youre head or without searching for what they are. if you no them without searching or asking other post them and prove to me that you no something. i really hope you dont jus post some bullshit without doin some research on whatever youre blabbering about. dont take me personally i jus want to get some facts straight.

yea.. i agree with choi.. every car that comes out from honda is ALWAYS better than its previous gen.. numchucks just jealous cuz he can't get an RSX type s.. hahaha.. have u guys even sat in one? i suggest u sit in one before u judge the god damn car.. u guys can rant all about the looks, thats opinion wise.. but as far as performance wise, i don't see how u guys can talk **** cuz u guys prolly never even driven it... i hvaea 95 gsr, and i can prolyl smoke a rsx type s, let alone the type r.. but i still think the rsx is a great car with much better technogloy than the previous gen... vtec i, better suspension, bigger interior (god damn its fukin big)... 6 speed close gearing tranny... everything about it is better than the current (3rd gen) gsr.
Well the type S sitting on display at my local dealer was over 27k. It included 16" rims and spoiler. Don't think that was enough to warrant 4k.
I know I am going out on a limb here but, I prefer double wishbones in a car. The macpherson strut can handle well, but from a pure performance aspect, not many will argue that wishbones have more potential. Most notably because of the gain of negative camber in turns. Everyone mentions the 911. This car has had many problems over the years. Porsche has worked hard to make this car what is is today. Beeemer (M3). I want one. Anyway, let's not forget some cars from the wishbone camp like the corvette. There were limited factory versions doing close to 1g on the skid pad.
PS I will try to test out a type S this week.
