Default 1st gen CRX drums on a 2nd gen???

My rear brakes are shot all to hell so im going to put on new shoes, drums, and wheel cylinders. Ive heard that you can use the drums off of a 1st gen CRX on a 2nd gen...is this true? Is the inner dimension the same as the 2nd gens? If they do work...what shoes do i get for it(1st or 2nd gen)? I want to do this because the first gen drums are aluminum and weigh a good bit less. Im not sure but i think that theyll disperse heat better and not get hot spots. Thanks

PS-Pep boys have raebestos(sp) drums for $42 or off brands for $20. The man up there said that he couldnt tell a difference in the two. Will the no-names be ok? And should i get the base shoes or "professional grade"?

the 1st gen HF is the one that people put onto the 2nd gen, because it is made out of alumnium...so its lighter and such...

Hey, you're in Greensboro too huh? Assuming that the drums from the 1st gen will fit, just get the El-Cheapo drums. As for shoes, get the El-Cheapo pads too. If you want to increase the performance out of the rear shoes, take a hacksaw and cut the one pad into 3 different ones, meaning two cuts each making 1/3 of the original pad. This allows your shoes to cool better.

Since you can't get a straight answer on whether the drums are the same, just buy the drums from the 87 CRX HF and try to slap them on. If they fit, great. If they don't, just take them back. I have a feeling they won't though...

My drums from my 87 CRX DX fit on my bud's 91 CRX DX perfectly...

My HF aluminum drums do not fit on my 87 CRX DX, backing plate needs mod.
