Anyone have Some Info about New Accord 6 speed Coupe?
Hi All,
I'm fairly new to the forum, and this is my first post.
Got some ?'s about the new 6 speed coupe. I'm thinking of getting one if I can this fall (maybe '04 MY by that time??).
About the V-6: Soes it have the fiber reinforced metal cylinder liner like the Prelude H22A engine? Is this engine made in Japan or the US? Is it smooth and easy reving (Prelude engine is easy reving, but not really smooth)?
About the trans: Anyone know what the gear ratios are? Is it easy to shift? What kind of linkage does it have; cable or?? How's it on the highway, is there any oumph in 6th gear or is a downshift pretty much a given for any acceleration?
I haven't seen any data in any of the car mags about this car. Does anyone have any data; 0 to 60, 1/4 mile times, lateral G's, slaom numbers? How are the brakes? I've read a few reviews in the mags about the Accord sedan saying the hadling and braking are not what was expected. Is the coupe a better performer??
Thanks

generally u shouldnt buy a car of a different the very first year it comes out due to that fact that they are "guinea pigs" if u knoe what im sayin.. that's the first year that the problems come out and htigns liket hat.. so to be on the safe side.. get a 2004 v6 coupe.. and u can alwaise go to honda.com and find out info on the car there.. good luck..
You mean no one has a 03 Accord with the 6 speed? No one knows any details about the engine either? I did find out quite a few things about my H22A in the Prelude from reading posts on this site. How about the V-6? Anyone do any mods to it? Any info appreciated.
im not sayin no one has it.. i mean ppl do have it.. im sayin that FEW ppl have it jsut becuz of the fact that the 2003 model is the VERY FIRST YEAR HONDA ACCORD came out with a manual 6 speed besides the prelude.. but the two cars are different so nothing is exactly alike or else it would also be called a prelude too.. and for a car like that.. it's hard to do mods on it cuz it's all experimental.. jsut think about it.. it's a brand new engine in an ACCORD and no known mods are heard of yet.. it's all EXPERIMENTAL!! hope that helps..

Cant answer all of it but I'll do what I can. Motor Trend ran that car and got 6.2 0-60 and 14.54 in the 1/4 if memory serves. The handling isnt up to par with the Prelude (my current car, a 99) even with the 17 inch wheels...blame it on the suspension and 200 extra pounds. I want to say that it did 64 mph in the slalom but I cant say for sure.
To my knowledge, the engine in the new one is the same as the V6 from the old Accord, but with a higher compression ratio, electronic throttle body, different exhaust and one or two other things, so wherever it was made before it is made now, I assume. Most mags have commented on how quiet it is...no sensation of speed at all (a mod or two will surely change that). The tranny has gotten good reviews too, said it was similar to an S2K's.

Thanks Adam G,
Do you know which issue of Motor Trend tested the 6 speed?
I'm not surprised the Coupe doesn't handle as well as the Prelude. It would be surprising if it did as it is a larger and higher car. I love the way the Prelude handles and I still think it looks good. The looks on the new Accord are starting to grow on me. At least I feel it looks better than the RSX, which has kind of an awkward look to me.
May main complaints about the 'Lude are the driving position which is just not ideal for me, the Accord fits me better. In the end, I guess this comfort factor will win out over the immediacy and connectedness feeling of the Prelude. Too bad we can't have BOTH!
