Default Not a honda, but a turbo question...

Ok, I have been driving my girlfriend's 87 Volvo 760 turbo for about 5 months now b/c I cant get my hatch to pass emissions.

Last night I was changing the oil and ran into the biggest engineering nightmare I have ever seen. The oil filter was above the engine mount w/ no access from below, and the turbo and its pipes were directly above it. To make a long story short I had to remove the plastic hosing from the turbo in order to get to the filter. In the process I found a problem.

The hose on the intake side of the turbo was not even connected. It was just hanging there. I know this would not be a horrible problem, but the same hose that goes from the air filter box to the turbo has hoses coming off of it going to the manifold. I assume these affect boost ratings etc.

Any harm you guys could see from this? I managed to clamp all the hoses back up but it was a major PITA. Ill try to take some pics later. Thanks for the help.

only bad thing I could think of is the oil getting dirty quicker

Yeah under the oil cap was looking pretty nasty. The inlet on the turbo was kinda nastified too. This is the only time changing the oil has taken me 3 hours.

The car does feel much more responsive now. Maybe it was just the oil change.

Have you tried to see if it has thrown any codes (if there is such a way to check)....

Its not throwing a code. Its just an absolute piece. I dont want the turbo shitting on me since I am borrowing the car. I dont need another nightmare.

From my experience though. A volvo will keep going dispite the fact that everything but the engine is broken. I hate these damn things This is my third that I have had the joy of tinkering on or driving.

The most satisfying thing ever was mangling the 80 DL I used for our homecoming parade. My first car was an 84 DL. Man I loved that thing
