94 Red GSR - I want my wheels powdercoated dark, anyone have pics? how much $ ?
I have a 94 Milano Red GSR, I plan to repaint it the same color either this fall or next spring, I was also planning to powdercoat the wheels at the same time. However, I have 2 leaking tires and I dont feel like getting new tires, and then dismounting them, and then remounting them, so I want to get the wheels powdercoated now.
I was thinking Gunmetal, I want something dark that looks sweet with Milano Red.
Anyone have pics? Please post them up (or email to me mikey@sssnet.com).
Also, how much should I expect to pay? I just called a couple places and was told $75/wheel and $85/wheel. I live in Ohio, and there isn't exactly a big import scene or anything.

I think you should experiment with painting them different color's when it comes time to get them powdercoated you will know which color you really want
No pics, but here in SoCal one place quoted me $50/ wheel and that's with sand blasting. Of all the posts I rmember reading, I never heard as high as $75/. It doesn't have anything to do with import scene, powdercoating is used for other things. Did you look in the yellow pages under powdercoating?
Yes, I've seen pictures here too, try doing a search from the archives, that's the best I can tell you. Gun metal would look mean on those 94 GSR wheels.

duh, now I look for "powdercoating" in the yellow pages (its actually under "coating - powder", i think i called every single listing under "automobile painting" yesterday and nobody had a clue what i was talking about. i checked this morning and there are like 8 different places nearby that do powdercoating, but of course, they're all closed. doh!
The lowest quote so far is $60/wheel, but theres a few places that I'll have to wait until monday to call.

Here's a related link I ran across a while back, to Al's Garage. They do powdercoating. They have a color pallette for you to choose from, too. The K-1's they demonstrated with look bad-*** with their powdercoat.
Good luck.
Good luck.

my teg with 16x7 wheels. i guess you could call them gun metal but the factory calls them dark grey.

dont get these wheels (ADR Spiders) but you can pick up a set of Rota Circuit8 wheels (look exactly the same) for around $500/set.
they come in 15" and 16" but im not sure about 17". i paid $135/wheel and $90/tire.

I'm trying to decide now if I want to powdercoat my stock gsr wheels, or buy new wheels and sell mine.
any input anyone?
regardless, i want some gunmetal wheels, or something dark. my car looks just like the one pictured too.

hey man....if you're thinking about selling your stock rims...please let me know. I am looking for a set. Email me a pic if you can. Thanx! I would personally love to get a set of OZ Superleggeras, but they don't make them in 16's(they make 15,17,&18) and they seem to be hard to find. Man do they look sweet, especially for a gun-metal.
Hey look, a pic of one of my wheels
I'm not sure what I am going to do, i hate to spend $60-$80 a wheel to have them powdercoated because thats $250-$300 alone, nor do i want to try and paint them or something myself, because if I screw them up, I'll kick myself in the butt.
I gotta make a decision in the next day or two tho.
Theres a picture of my dirty car a few months ago, when the snow finally melted. I never realized how jacked up the car looked... wow! sure am glad i put those shocks/springs on

They're stock 94-95 gsr wheels. 15x6 to be exact, wrapped in 205/50/15 rubbers in those pics. the car looks sooo much better since its dropped a wee bit. (pro kits 1.3" drop) but of course, i have no pics
It's a tough decision b/c the 95-95 GSR wheels are the best looking IMO, w/ the 99+ a close second. Those Rota wheels in the pic above are great and much lighter in 15". So if you're going for better handling, getting the Rotas might be a good call. You can get them in 16" for around the same weight as the stock GSR. Rota also makes some called sub-zeros which are even lighter, I am considering those for the future but don't know if they are as strong as the C8 pictured above. I think there's agroup buy for both right now at http://www.groupbuycenter.com
If your stocks are in good shape, you can probably almost pay for the Rotas if you sell them, or if you can afford it, just keep them for a while. I might do that, since mine are in pretty bad shape and I probably won't get much $ for selling them.

I know of a place in the San Fran bay area that will powdercoat w/sandblast each wheel for 40 a piece or 35 a piece if they are brand new. Thats the best deal I've seen/heard of around.
