I'm a 17 year old kid so funds are limited, but i need to lower my car. I'm sick of the wheel gap and would like better handling. I have enough money to get some cheaper coilovers such as dropzone, but i really want ground controls. Does anybody know how dropzones perform? If they ride pretty nice i may just save some money, but let me know what you think i should do
Right off the bat, i had ground controls they arent all that. Another lil bit of advice do not drop the car without putting better shocks to handle it, a rookie mistake i made many years ago. The best idea would be to buy a complete damper set, but you said funds were limited, id say get some good shocks( they are going to compensate alot) liek some koni's , or a little cheaper kyb's, then you can buy some h& r's . I hear good reviews about them although they arent the best, they pretty good bang for your buck. The springs you can get for like 125$ and the shocks for about 200$...check ebay for some stuff...thats where i started. Good luck man...
dropzone's
... i myself just turned 18 not to long ago and my friends had them in his 02' civic and trust me it was not a good ride... bounces and hits the inside of the fenders... like everyone else said save up money for something thats better than cheap coilovers

I'm looking for a suspension upgrade as well. I also just happen to be 17 too. 18 in a month! I might get KYB AXP shocks w/ H&R springs. My brother unlike me thinks coilovers are the best thing ever, where as I find performance shocks and springs to be a plus. Although it depends how you calibrate the parts which depends on how your ride feels. It isn't solely on the parts alone to do all the work. What you should consider is what you want to do with your car. It helps a lot to know your goals for your baby.
I myself am going to race on a track since drag is not my style. Therefor I want adjustable shocks and a low ride height to keep me close to the ground. Now say you are into drag...then you need shocks that can handle the bounce of your average beat up road so you need something that is a little soft and can absorb the shock where as on a track you want it stiff. Drifting is the stiff exception so that your car doesn't sway as much. And you also don't want your car too low because of speed bumps, driveways and badly paved roads. I say don't go with the coilovers and buy a mid grade to good set of shocks and springs. I personally find they give better performance over coilovers.

I am 17 too and am limited on funds and would also like some coilovers , any no name brand coilovers that arent too bad and how much do the h&r cost and how low is the drop, i want a pretty good drop but dont want to scrape too much

And I'm guessing right now that you care more for looks than how the car actually performs if you even think for a second that dropzone coilovers are going to help your cause.
Why not just go with a lowering spring? Some of these can be had for pretty cheap from brands like Eibach, H&R, Neuspeed, etc.
Dropzone goes in the same bucket with APC, Aerospeed, and others. Not only do I think they don't perform well, but I really wouldn't trust using their parts on my car. Something breaks and you can be in deep **** on the highway.
Just my thoughts,
JP
PS--I'm 19 and am riding on GC's and Koni's. Could've gone cheap but didn't. I autocross and do HPDE's, so performance and quality is a must. Do what you think is right for you.

sounds like i should stick with gc's or possibly springs. i really do want springs b/c the ride quality is better, however, i have a kit (1st mistake...i know) and when winter comes i'll have to raise it up cuz im not positive ill have a winter beater. thats the only reason im not sure springs would be a good idea
check this thread.....

01nhbgsr has DROPZONE coilovers and says they ride as good as GCs and he has a full stock suspension setup....read about it....i'm thinking about getting some dropzones to even the drop on my ride....my neuspeed race is too low and tucked in the front with no finger gap and high in the rear with one finger gap

I'm 18 and I decided not to settle for the cheaper products, because no matter what you think, "you get what you pay for' is true. I saved and got a set of Tokico Illuminas and recently went from neuspeed sports to skunk2 coilovers, and they feel AMAZING. Definately save to get good shocks or a full coilover system, its worth it in the long run.
im around the same age i just turned 19. what everyone is saying is true don't get the cheap stuff. and definitely shocks and springs at the same time. Merlin00069 said that ground controls aren't all that, which is actually true. but people buy ground controls because they offer extra stuff like you can order custom spring rates and you can order other stuff like longer sleeves and stuff. if you are planning on autocrossing then go with gc with custom rates but if you are not then get whatever shouldn't matter much but watch out for some products.
I installed apc coilovers on stock shocks before and the spring rate was so low that i was bouncing on the street. I was 16 back then so I didnt know too much I put on koni yellow if you dont know they are expensive shocks(500-600 bucks) one of the best you can buy. The springs were so bouncy that it kept bottoming out and eventually messed up my shocks.
Just watch out for shitty parts but most parts shouldn't be that bad. (update)Wow yea i just saw that thread after posting on dropzone and that guy is siting on the floor and the guy says his ride is clean with stock shocks. They say that the gc's and dropzones look exactly the same and that the dropzones actually rode cleaner than the gc's. If i were you id go for it. You can put springs with stock shocks but they will eventually blow. your call good luck
