He was the best 250 rider ever and the best to ever come from Japan. He joins Senna as one of Honda's great fallen heroes. A good quote I found on another board about his death:

i've been watching and hoping for Katoh's/japan's assult on the f1 championship for several years... I was very very sadden to hear as see what happened... I have nothing to say excpet when we strap in or throw a leg over, you have to be prepared to give the ultimagte in payment... This is not like putting on a pair of nikes, and shooting jungle ball. By the by Honda had nothing to do with Ayrton Senna's Very sad demise
