my friend has a 99 prelude 5 speed and all he has is a aem CAI and cat back exhaust. and i have a 93 cx hatch with a jdm type r motor. he does the whole chipping ecu things so he let me run a mugen xh4 program and i still got beat by him. he said that the reason he beat me was becasue i have a bad exhaust leak (no donut gasket ring between down pipe and CAT) he says that im losing a lot fo compression that way and also im running the stock CX fuel pump (79 lph) and he said i needed to get the gsr pump. and after that i shoudl be able to beat him. now im a pretty competant driver so i know its not my driving i beat him off the line bad but by 3rd gear he caught up and was pullin. do u guys think that the problems i listed above about my car could be it?

if it's a stock motor, yup...you'll need to get a FPR, a bigger fuel pump maybe get a better exhaust setup than the one you have now. do you have stock clutch??? you may want to replace that as well....

yea oh **** i have never been more embarrased in my life. i should have raped his azz. but my exhaust leak is bad. when i kickk it i can feel the motor stuggeling at the bottom of the power band but when vtec engages its normal. he keeps telling me that with that leak that bad that im losing compression. but i thought that a lot of hondas run open header at the track. so why would i lose compression because of a leak . i mean it is really bad the whole donut ring is gone now and all u hear is exhaust its really loud and annoying too .. i mean do u think that a leak that bad could have that much of a hp loss??

I agree....unless you have some hella beefy injectors.

all civic/ integra injectors are at 240cc so no

That's exactly what I was just going ot say. If he didnt need to replace his fuel pump, then how come GSR/ITRs have higher flow fuel pumps in the first place?
I say get a fuel pump, it's something no one ever thinks about anyway...

also no one ever answered my original question. how much hp and torque do i really lose with a exhaust leak between my downpipe and CAT. the donut ring is completely gone and i can fele th motor having a loss of bottom end power
exhuast leak...hahahahah thats the stupidest **** I've ever heard. Sounds like there is more wrong with your motor than that exhaust leak, maybe he was spraying?
if the leak is bad enough for you to feel AND hear, then yeah, id say you have a prob!.....just replace it, it cant take any longer than 15 minutes....good luck on your next run..."kick his *** seabass!!"
Oh man, I'm sorry bro. You should have eaten him. Last night I had a short run with a 5th gen lude with an aem intake. My car is a total sleeper - '95 cx w/ jdm gsr swap, short ram intake, stock gsr exhaust manifold, no cat and STOCK 1 3/8" cx exhaust piping/muffler, no tach either - so it's hard to get cars to mess with me based on appearance. Anyway, we took off from the light normal and I engaged 2nd like normal. At about 35 he could here the slight hum of my lovely motor and we both stepped on it. It was about even at first because neither of us hit our vtec powerbands, then I pulled almost a 1/2 car to the top of second. I shut it down then because I don't ever go all out on the street anymore and would've kept pulling through third (I presume based on the fact that ludes are torquey off the line, but my hatch has mad 3rd gear vtek skillz - j/k
).
).
i had a problem with my o2 sensor. it would heat up and the ecu would run real rich. ended up losing 10whp top end - no joke. i still need to get that sh*t fixed...or chip the ecu...
