Default cutting steel?

alright, I am really having a problem here - anyone that has taken out their back seats knows about the piece that sticks up in the middle... it's a peice of steel that the backseat is mounted to - can't get pics right now... but anyways, what can I use to cut this peice of steel out? a 35000 rpm dremel isn't working (with the little bit that I tried) it is sparking up a storm but doing almost no damage at all

please help, this peice is very annoying and is messing up my surfboard

Hmmm. Cutting torch I guess

Seriously though, maybe you should think about simply wrapping the piece of metal with plastic or something. What happens when you want to sell the car and you need to put the backseats in?

who needs back seats anyways, I am planning on sorta customizing the back so it looks good... it's not gonna be some half *** looking job - it is so much more spacious w/o backseats

Dude Dremel can cut through almost anything. I've cut off wheel studs with mine and I know wheels studs are like grade 8 steel or better. The cheap flimsy honda body metal should be no match for a Dremel with a nice set of high tensile gyros cutting discs. I Dremels.

I've got a 4" Mikita grinder like the one in the photo in the prior post (I'm not sure what size the one shown is). With the correct cut-off disk I can cut anything! Stainless steel tends to use up disks, but it works.

Buy one!

1. plasma cutter
2. hacksaw
3. circular saw and be real careful not to have it buck and cut your arm off
3. sawzall

All you need is a drill and a 1/4 drill bit.
Drill out the spot welds. Just go a bit at a time so you don't drill all the way through the metal.
I use the 1/4 to get started, then move to a larger bit to remove the metal. then use a sledge hammer and break the bracket right off.
Tha's how I remove the front engine bracket on the front crossmember when I am doing a swap.

all complaints to sear.. but seriously, get a different disk and you are set. this image was just an example.

Instead of doing it this way just get a spot weld cutter. It will cut just the spot welds without cutting through your entire car. Or you could use a sawzall that would work great as well but if you want to drill I would completely recommend the spot weld cutter its just like a drill bit (well a circle saw?) but yeah it will just cut through where you need it to.

U need a Grinder with a "ZIP CUT" on it. It'll take u 10 seconds with one of those. If not then go back to the basics and grab a hack saw. lol

Good luck

Those work well

so do those (75cc engine )

But your best bet is to use the corect tool on your dremel. Use a cutting disk, not a bit.

air body saw, will cut it faster and cleaner then most things. if you use a grinder watch out for the sparks, if they hit your window they will pit it. with a sawz-all its big and awkard to cut it close. another thing that cuts well is a air die grinder with the cut off tool. you will be sitting there forever with a dremel and a tourch is a stupid thing b/c i think its right over your gas tank. a plasma cutter would be kick *** but i dont think youll want to spend $800+ to just cut this one piece of metal. trust me im a minitrucker, i can cut some ****.

Well you might be right about the grinding part, but I have a grinder at home that came with a cutting disk and I use it all the time to cut and it won't fall apart. I can cut through an exhaust mani no problem (the stock cast iron ones).

That grinding disk doesn't look like a bad disk and I bet if he wanted to grind the metal down with that, it would have no problem and not hurt the disk. Why rag on an angle grinder? Did it hurt you

I have a grinder and I bought a cutting disc for it, the cutting disc can handle anything. And it never broke on me. I'd say buy a nice grinder then a cutting disc for it.
