Default SCAMMED out of my TurbO!

Alright, so I came across this auction on ebay of a complete turbo kit with only 4,500 miles on it for $600(no intercooler) but it seemed like a pretty good deal, so I e-mailed the girl selling it, and she got back to me and said she would close down the auction if I wanted it for $600, I agreed, she then sent me this email, along with her address.:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Chad,

After you confirm the payment at Western Union i will go righat away at UPS service and i will make the delivery. You will receive the kit in 2-3Days Air Express.

So, please let me know ASAP when you can make the payment so i can send you the kit.

IF FOR ANY REASON YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE PURCHASE OF THIS KIT YOU MAY RETURN IT WITHIN THREE DAYS OF RECEIVING IT .
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I sent out the $600 through western union (and paid the $50 fee for doing it) then e-mailed her the number to pick the money up. That was over a month ago, and I havent heard anything from her since..
There were several e-mails before I paid her, and she always responded very quickly when I wrote her. I contacted the law enforcement, and they are going to investigate it (eventually) but I need to know if there is anything else I can do to get my money back/get her in trouble. She lives in Romania by the way.

I cannot afford to spend another several hundred dollars right now, since I already have rent/car payment/bills to worry about. That money was hard-earned, and saved for that turbo. im so pissed off and disappointed...

Any suggestions?

PS-**** my sig now..

ebay's bad account holders have been blasted out of the water now, i think the law is looking a lot more closely into these scams. i'm sure by contacting ebay and the local law, it will get straightened out.

I've spent around 2g's on ebay, no real problems yet. *knock on wood*

hey schmoo,
the only reason I think ebay may not want to get involved is because I never "officially" bid on the item, I emailed the seller, and she closed down the auction before it finished. it was basically like using "buy it now" without actually doing it.

Sorry, but it was really not a smart idea to buy anything from anyone in Romania. 2-3 air express alone would cost a fortune on a turbo kit.

you didnt go THROUGH any middle man, this was between two individuals, where no actual contact occured...no signatures or anything either, just email...so...youre fucked...even a phn call would help you out...

sorry dude...but I bet next time you wont buy online w/o signatures again though

the only "middle man" i went through was western union, to send the money. Which provides me with receipts showing i sent the money, and what it was for. But i really had no choice. Either take her offer to end the auction, and take the risk i did, or let the bidding go up several hundred more dollars, were i could not afford to buy it. my love of horse power temporarily blinded me.

I do have her full name, address, and e-mail address, and she did have to show ID to pick up the money i sent, so in a way, it is better than ebay. Ebay doesnt require actual picture id to be shown before money can be picked up like western union. besides, ebay doesnt do ****, they only pay %10 last time I checked on bad auctions like this one.

your basically fucked. Start saving for something else because your NEVER going to see that $$$ again. EBAY has been know for having world-wide scams in Romania, Singapore, and of course Indonesia. I would NEVER even consider SELLING anything to someone from those countries much less buy something from them. Time to move on dude...

so there is basically nothing I can do other than contacting the authorities? c'mon, there has to be something, I mean I have the PROOF that I paid for it and everything...

Someday I will fly over there, and take care of this one-on-one. there will be one less scammer in the world...

Anyone have any ideas, or help to offer? I have the paperwork, and she had to show ID to pick the money up, and I have her addy..

doesnt matter that you have proof that you gave her money...theres no proof that it was for a turbo (except email, which doesnt hold ****). You couldve just sent her money to fix her car, pay rent, for the hell of it. Just like those old wester union ads...people send money for any reason.

there isnt anything that you can do but hope the legal system will be on your side for ignorance

there is one SMALL bit of proof that it was for a turbo. You can put down a question when sending money through WU that the receiver has to answer. I put down "what is this money for?" and the answer was "turbo". I have the addy for the ebay auction she started too, even though its gone now, i figure they could probably retrieve it if need be. She sent me pics of the turbo in email as well.

Besides, if she is contacted by the authorities, and they question her about the money, what is she going to say "he's my old friend..." I just hope she gets what she deserves, even if I dont get my money back.

you know, the longer I'm out here the more i see this happening, there is no way in hell i would buy anything from ebay or anywhere elas for that matter that has to do with used motor stuff or that has to do with a large sum of money, the one thing i see alot of people doing out here is jumping at the first thing they come across.IF IT TO GOOD TO BE TRUE THEN IT IS. with that being said, (i know shut-up) YOUR OUT OF THE MONEY. chalk this one up as something to never do again. The bitch is in Russia, you go there to get your money back and you`ll never see your homeland again.

I had the same thing happen to me on an engine on ebay. I paid 300 for a d15 just to get my 88 civic running again, and totally got screwed on the deal. There were quick replies at first and then eventually none. The bottom line is I never got my money back or the engine.

Sorry
Mike

I also got scammed. I saw a turbo kit on ebay and bought it outside of ebay. I sent the guy $1790. He lives in PA and i live in NJ. I'm having the law take care of it, but it's gonna take a while before i get my money. I can even imagine if being international. Good luck
