500 For Clutch Install!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy ****, $500 is the cheapest price for a clutch install and thats not including 300 for the clutch. I never expected it to be so much. Anybody have any suggestiosn or this that price the cheapest i can get it.
That's a little high but not too unreasonable. Do you know what is involved in taking the whole tranny out?? Figure $50 per hour for 10 hours. That's not too far off.
True, i know whats involved but you really think it would take 10 hours????
People can do complete engine swaps in less time than that.

Exactly i dont have the tools, i have a garage but its pretty small. I dont have a tranny lift. THe price i would pay for tools would probablly be equal that of an install.

you don't need a tranny lift just use a floor jack to support the tranny when you remove it. it took me 4 hours to replace my clutch and that includes drinking a six pack too.
cost in so cali is about $150 still expensive to me though.

I think $500 including clutch would be fair. But $500 just to do the install is out-fu#$ing-ragious. If you have a couple of friends that will be willing to help you out, I would definitely entice them with pizza and beer to help you install the clutch. But keep in mind save the beer for until after you've installed the clutch.
if you know what I mean. And make shure you have a factory manual with you.

I have no friends that have any automotive knowledge so that wouldent work. And im just starting to work on my car myself also so i would need someone to help me.
Well, maybe you should try bargaining with the shop and tell them all you have is $500 and see if they can do the install for you including the clutch if you get they to buy the clutch for you. If not I woul shop around for another shop who will do it for less.

what kind of car do you have? we normally charge $350 for a clutch install if the customer provides it and around $500 with parts. try a performance shop, you'll probably get the best deal there.

In my 200sx I got it down 3hours to drop and put back up. It wasnt hard. Its not hard at all. Just need your basic tools. you could go to sears and buy the mechanic set for say 90 bucks. and a standard torque wrench say 30 bucks and a 32MM socket. that should be it. that will give you enough and maybe a breaker bar. but its not hard and dont forget your helms. but you should already have one. First time I did mine It took about 10hours but it was because It was my first time. I had never touched a tranny before. Its not hard just do it your self. and post the tech.
is there anyone in auto shop u can trust with ur car..if so offer him a few bucks to use ur car as a project on the install...give him the manual..they ll have all the tools need d to do the job
Thats the other thing, IM a student, I work on the weekends and I have lacrosse practice every day. Not much time as you can see. THis car is a daily driver also.
Ill probablly just look around some more for better prices.
I would love to do it myself but the clutch needs replacement badly and I dont have the time for it.

500 is outrageous. it only took two hours for a shop to put my clutch in, and they charged me 200 for labor. i would look elsewhere.
Wow I wish i was in oregon right now. My families main mechanic told us 750 and the honda dealership told us 800.
My clutch is so bad right now, it slips all the time and it is so high (no not stoned).

thats how techs make there money...an unexpierenced tech would probibly take 10 hrs...someone whos done 50 would take 2 to 3 hours.
you pay techs for what they know not what they do...just like a computer tech...they fix your computer and charge 75 bucks an hour and you still buy parts.
i dont understand why people always think there getting ripped off. you figure an expierence tech has anywhere from 20k to 70k in tools alone...sounds like alot but its true. ive been doing it for 4 years and have spent about 7k in tools...and still need some stuff

DAMN!! $500!! That's insane!! That's like a LSD install!! my buddies and myself took my tranny off and on in 2 1/2 hours!! air tools rock!! Plus, knowing that they get paid by the hour, they're gonna take their sweet *** time taking off and putting it on!!
thats a rip off. a clutch only takes 3 to 4 hour to replace, and it should probably cost about $300 at the most.
