$300 to race at Hyperfest?
Yeah, I'm a little frustrated. Why is it $300 to race at Hyperfest? There are more sponsors than ever, there will be tons of paying spectators, and the racers have to pay more? $300 is almost double what an SCCA weekend costs.

Yeah... What Gives... it keeps going up... every race, from last year to this year...
Oh well.. they'll just keep going up until they start losing racers... My money shrub is dead, and the car may go into hibernation soon. Thanks.

Feel the same way, All prices have gone up, and what, less track time.. You would think if Pepboys amounst others is sponsoring, it would help us racers..

That's just the way it works.
You are actually paying more to race in the bigger show. You do want to be part of the show don't you?
Scott, who understands show business...kinda...

This is all for fun anyways, and frankly, if we have enough people running around in ITE, it'll still be fun. So there will be a few crazy Porsches and stuff blowing our doors off, but if there are enough entries in ITE to keep it interesting...

Holy crap! I unintentionally misled my new sponsor too. I just ASSumed that it would be slightly over $200 like last year. Bitching probably won't make a difference but I will add my name to the list of people that will start looking at SCCA if this kind of gouging continues. I would be down for running whatever SCCA class as long as some of you guys were there to race with.

$300 is not bad. We pay $375 to race at California Speedway on a regular race weekend. I'm not sure if it will cost more when we have the Hyperfest there in July.
Ok guys. Here is the deal. The money that comes in from sponsorship goes right back out the door in promotions to get people to the event to see you race.
These are still new events and in this economy sponsorships are few and those that are there are relatively small. Don't think that we are popping Dom and bathing in caviar.
Regular entry is $225 for a NASA weekend and that gets you double the track time that the SCCA gives you. Double the racing, free food and beer and trophy girls and pictures in speednews and pictures in GRM and and and...
and at the Hyperfest....
For $75 dollars more you get the ability to tap into a cash purse and receive prizes.
Oh yeah, did I mention your own run group.
Oh yeah did I mention feature event coverage in two national magazines.
Oh yeah did I mention sponsors that will be at the track to see you race. Do you think that if you sell yourself to a sponsor they may give you at least $75 when you tell them that in this season you ran in front of over 30k people.
Oh yeah did I mention the Hooter girls
Oh yeah did I mention Honda Challenge being the Feature race group of the weekend.
Believe me I understand that racing is expensive but you guys need to do your homework first. As far as being more expensive than the SCCA. You get as much racing in with NASA in 5 weekends as you do with SCCA in 10. This means less travel expense. Every NASA weekend is a "double" .SCCA doubles run from $300-$400 WITHOUT exposure.
Hope you see the differences.
See you at Beaverun.

AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE?????

We pay $300 for a regular weekend out West. We don't get that much track time. I am not complaining about what we get, I just find it hard to be supportive especially for what you are getting.
Hope you don't take the criticism personally Chris. Economic times are tough on us as well and most of us pay almost entirely out of pocket to race (as you well know). Stretching the budget can be difficult. I look forward to Beaver Run and hope that the increased publicity can benefit all of us. I honestly just want the opportunity to race. I do hope that the series can begin to attract more sponsors to help us racers offset costs such as tires, brakes, fuel, travel expenses, tow vehicle expenses etc. Appreciate the effort to attract more sponsors.
Warren makes good points. So does Chris. Let's keep this civilized guys
A different perspective: I hate price increases as much as the next guy, but -- When I first looked into how much it costs to go W2W last year, I was shocked to learn that a racing weekend is cheaper than an HPDE weekend. Totally floored. I was prepared to find out that it was double.
(Chris - that is NOT an excuse to keep raising prices!

Entry may be less, but you usually get less track time than HPDE. And you have other expenses that HPDE participants do not incur (tow vehicle, accelerated wear and tear, occasional body damage).

If you late registered then you paid $225 plus $50 late entry.
Spec Miata Challenge is $300 or $350 if late entry.

OK, must be not late next time.
Why do I want to pay $75 extra for "miata challenge"? I'm honestly curious. Is it for the money at the end of the season?

My ultimate goal is to have the events popular enough to give back entry fees to anyone who starts the races but that can only happen when the show is drawing enough people through the gate. This is a bit of a test year for HFEST. If it goes well then the probability of this happening are good.
I don't plan on raising any prices. They are reasonable as they stand.
Peace,
C

I know, I wasn't comparing the two. In terms of "you get what you pay for", W2W looks like a good value to a participant compared with HPDE, is all I'm saying. I was merely pleasantly surprised. (for the record, I haven't paid for an HPDE in 2 years anyways - been instructing! So W2W is going to hurt financially at any price for me.)

You can opt to run regionally and not pay it.

Chris is doing a fine job. no complaints here with NASA or the ECHC. Go Chris!
I'm looking forward to racing again with a crowd looking on. it really adds something special to an already adrenalin charged race.
