Default B18 non-vtec worth it?

I'm looking to put a b18 from older integra into my crx.. I owned a 92 integra ls .. loved the torque.. want it back :-) i know there is alotta issues with this.. is it even worth it you think? i mean 140 hp... when b16 is much better.. but this would be cheaper.. someone let me know :-)

If you're deciding on dropping a B18 (nonvtec) motor, consider dropping a B20 instead. More torque and eventually more power should you add a Vtec head.

B20z i think has slightly higher compression and newer motor. I'd take any, if you're going to build the block anyway.

Currently I am running LS-Vtec but have had 2 EF 's one 89' and the current a 88' I started with the current as just a B18a and the 89' was also a B18a and I loved it. I stomped all over b16a swaped EF 's all day (just so long as they had equal mods as me). Anyway the tourque is awsome and I wouldnt give for it. With a B18a/b swap you have the option of either turbo what you have or do LS-Vtec. I say go for it. Although the b20 would be alot more tourque I say for the cost just go B18a. Youll love it.

what the ls lacks in hp it makes up for in tq. when you think about a b20 though you need to think about what you want to do with it.. if you plan to boost then take the ls because my understading is that b20's have weak sleeves. in my ls i am very happy.. i had a low redline and threw in some crower cams wich bumped my redline up to 8 grand. a b16 might take you on the highway but on the street a LS will stomp a b16. LS is also a great nitrous motor. low compression and you can squeeze a direct port setup with ease .. no worrys.

The B20 does have weaker sleeves. It has 7mm vs 9mm sleeves. But with a GE blockguard all is well.

The B18 will only be slightly faster than a B16 up to 3rd gear, when the B16 pulls away due to a beter top end.

That is until you throw on the GSR or B16 head and whip up all over the B16.

that is until your motor blows because you just slapped on a gsr or b16 head without properly building your motor to rev to 8k

Alright smart guy I just thought Id let you know that I dont have a built bottom end and I have a stock b18a bottom end and I have a stock b16a head. I havent had any probs with my motor and neither has my friend with my same setup that has had his for about 40k miles now. My point is that there are some instances where you dont have any probs at all with just putting the head on.

If you plan on just putting the motor in and not doing much work to it then yes the b16 would be quicker but if you plan on working this motor then by all means the b18 is a good motor to boost..it's all up to you on how much you wanna spend on your project and what you are looking for in a end result

are you reading this thread? b16 is not much better. I will work a b16. my car with out the nitrous. mods being ... 91 LS, crower cams, aem intake, dc 4.2.1 headers, straight pipe, trust exhaust, act 4 puck clutch. thats just the mods that really matter. besides that lets talk about reliabitly and when somthing goes wrong how much cheaper and easier it is to get parts for the LS. for example. the dizzy. i got ppl hittin me up everyday for b16 dizzys. ls dizzy you can get anywhere. now on the highway your right. a b16 is better. but on the street.. from a light.. ill will destroy a b16.

well maybe you dont drive it the way he might, it has been proven that a b18 with a b16 head cant handle 8k revs all day long like a normal motor can, just becuase it works for u doesnt mean it will work for him.

and your right, im am the smart guy im not running a lsvtec on a stock block ****** face.

on the street ~~ from the light . b16 never has a chance to get the top end in to the race. now on the track maybe a different story. i dont drive my ls that hard but since i put in the cams i cant help takin it to 8 grand sometimes. but i believe on a 1/4 mile run between ls and b16 i think you can make a big enough gain on the bottom end to win. i guess of course it depends on driver, tires, clutch, and all that.

I have a 91 B18A in my DX with a J1 (b16a tranny) and I ran a 15.8@86.4 mph at 5200 ft. Corrected for sea level that is a 14.7@92 mph. I thought this was pretty good. There were two B16A powered EG's at the track and the fastest one was a 15.8. I think the EG's are lighter anyway. There was also a brand new Mustang GT on slicks and his best time was a 15.9. I love the B18A torque.
