Default Custom Gauge Cluster

ok im looking at doing a custom gauge cluster for my 89 si. first off im going to use the 90-91 cover cause its rounder. what i plan on doing is putting a 5" tach in the cluster. my question is, is it possible with the 90-91 cover. i know it isnt with the 88-89.

junk yard, there are plenty,

im about 150% yuo wont be able to mount the monster tach there, because of the depth of the tach and the height.

i know the 88-89 are small, but i was just wondering about the 90-91 cover cause they are rounder and maybe taller didnt know.

oh and if the monster 5" is so ricey then i guess all the pro stock guys are ricey too?

pro stock guys run 10s or quicker, soo unless you are running 10s or lower then yeah you are ricey.

are you going so fast that you need a 5 inch gauge to be able to focus on your tach?

Hey man, don't diss monster tachs. Sure lots of ricers use them, but if they're used correctly, especially on the strip, they're a HUGE asset. I'll never go back to using a stock tach in the guage cluster. The shift light helps so much.

i dont need one, i have a vafc.

seriously though, the stock tach is shitty you dont need a 5 inch tach u can get a 3 inch, u can make a digital one using parts from radio shack or u can stick with stock and get a shift lite.

Just curious, why would it matter that you have a VAFC? I know it will display RPM but it's incredibly small.

its not incredibly small when u chose to only monitor one thing, and choose rpm then its big

Hmm I've never even monitored one thing now that I think about it, I'll have to try that out. I usually have the 4 way screen on throttle, rpm, vti, and vto.

I really don't think that a 5" tach is rice, especially if you race alot and if you use it to judge your speed ... on whoever said a 5" tach is ricey

i dont really understand why you think a 5" tach is necessary to drive your car,

yes the stock tach is in accurate, however ive driven my car enough to know where to shift, if you havent figured that out yet then ur a shitty driver.

5" tachs = rice
5" tachs = not necessary

its not a performance modification its an appearance mod.

Well, for one thing slowpokesi, my tach is much easier to read and more visible than the stock one. Plus, the shift light helps when I want to monitor other gauges when I'm making a pass. I know what you're gonna say, just use another tach and buy a shift light yada yada, but I got the a great deal on the tach and shift light, and I found out that it would cost just as much just to get a good shift light going! So don't be knocking 5" tachs because you happen to not like them. If they suck so much then why do all the pro's use em?

wow you people really want the racer/ricer look...if you cant see your tach in your dash then you are blind, and man i cant see for **** but i can still tell what my rpm is at...if you dont know where to shift get a little shift light if you must...but not some monster rice tach...
