Default JDm D15 vtec or Mini me?

Want to get some opinions, should I go with the D15 JDM Vtec or do a mini me swap with what I have?

- from what I read I could use the D15 block and put 89 integra pistons in it and also swap the head? Is this correct? WOuld the D15 Vtec be a better way to go?

I have a 90 DX hatch that needs a motor. Have about $800-1000 to spend, would like to stay SOHC.

the jdm vtec 1.5Ls can be had for as little as 350 bucks.. then just something to control the vtec. seems like the way to go.

even though I have a mini-me

are there cams available for the d15b(jdm) can you use teh p29(?) teg pistons to bump up cr? i'm assuming all of the headgaskets & seals would be teh same as a usdm d15? would teh water pump & whatnot all be teh same usdm-jdm?

what do u mean something to control the vtec? like an rpm activator? would there be any advantage to odb1 over an rpm activator?

and from the little knowledge I have to answer your questions - don't know about the headgasket.. it would make sense to use a d15, but the water pump and timing belt, etc should come from a 94 civic Del sol ex

Gotta have the vtec ecu or an rpm activated switch (msd or similar) or a vafc. vtec doesn't just turn on by it's self.

how much easier are these msd rpm activated switches? I plan on getting a d15 jdm vtec, but the wiring is worrying me... I just want a simple plug and play, my car is currently a DX... so it sounds like if I keep the car obd0, i gotta buy a new dizzy which would cost a lot more money than the obd-1 conversion

can someone please link a diagram to obd1 conversion in a DX? (im searching for it right now, but just incase)

Go for the D15 VTEC. Put a non vtec D15 valve cover on it and it would be a sleeper to most. regardless of anything else, the idea just sounds cool.

RPM switches are for those on a budget but you also have to remember your going to have a fuel problem. If you worried about wiring, go for the switch and also get a fpr. I have a summit rpm switch with a 30 amp relay if your interested. PM me if you have anyother questions.

That's like asking what is better a 2" dick that's really fat or a 3" skinny one.

what kind of fuel problem? I am on a pretty tight budget, my engine is ready to go and I only have $350 right now - not to mention I have to get my CV joints replaced *$100 each* ...

what is better

we might just do the obd1 conversion depending on the difficulty... read up that it's much more effecient and easier to troubleshoot

if you do an obdI conversion you are going to have to buy a new dizzy anyhow so it's not going to save money.
I have an Autometer rpm activator module contoling my vtec activation. No problems so far. The extra fuel isn't there when vtec kicks in but you can still feel the pull. One day I'll finally get the VAFC but for right now I'm low-budget.
the d15b w/vtec is a great motor by the way

If you are actually paying 100 bucks a piece for stocker cv shafts.. you need to stop worrying about motors until you do more research.

I'm not bagging on you at all.. I'm just saying.. axles cost 50 bucks each and the job is extremely easy.. start with the basics.

Thanks for all the input. I especially like the idea of a turbo D15 vtec set up. I know I have read a few post from someone on this board who has that set up and runs strong despite the low budget. Thanks

i find it hard to get the time, get the tools, and this place provides a life time warranty ... can't beat that and it only takes them about 30 minutes to install both of them

I am getting a motor for a simple reason, have more power than this stock POS dx and to have less miles (oil burning)... drag racing or road racing isnt my thing, working on cars with the lack of knowledge and tools really sucks *(which is why im here to learn more about)
