Moaning or Grinding sound in '94 Integra
Ok, I tried the search feature for a while and I'm still unsure about my problem. First of all, I have a '94 RS manual tranny with 100k miles on it. The car is bone stock.
Problem:: At low RPM's (pretty much when i'm decelerating in second and third gear) there is a sort of grinding/moaning/vibrating (ok that sounds kinda sick..haha) sound coming from my car. It seems like it's coming from my tranny or undercarriage of the car. Again, I have used the search feature on this site and I still can't pinpoint exactly what's wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Could be the Tranny bearings. I'm not sure what you're describing though...does it sometimes do it at idle? is it less noticeable at high RPM's?
maybe throwout bearing going out? mine made alot of noise in low rpms especially in 1st and 2nd gear. Kinda sounded like what you're describing. Mine finally siezed and screwed over the pressure plate.....it was new clutch time at that point to say the least...hehe
But yeah, it doesn't happen at idle, it happens at low RPM's and less noticeable at higher RPM's, it is very noticeable when i'm decelerating (when my foot is off of the gas pedal and the RPM's are dropping and the speed is dropping). It is a sort of vibrating or grinding noise. It happens in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear while I am decelerating. What do you guys think? I'm going to check the motor mounts, but do you think it could also be the throwout bearing? I'm going to check the mounts tomorrow, but what should I watch out for? Signs of wearing and cracking and what else? Thanks guys.
Ok I checked everything that I was set out to check. One of my friends who has an S2000 said that he was experiencing the same thing. A buzzing noise while decelerating in 2nd and/or 3rd gear. He said it was "backlash". This occurs when the gears are not calibrated and vibrate while decelerating. Any thoughts on this guys?

Damn hookers! Always moaning.
Damn hookers! Always moaning.
Just fixed my moaning and grinding...it was a combination of my lower control arm bushing, and the front swaybar bushings. unless your situation is tranny related, which it very well could be, this is what i would suggeset you check. you can buy everything from acuracarland.com for 20-30 shipped, and i would suggest doing what you do to one side to the other. pm me if you have any questions on installing them, its a bitch if you dont know how (and usually even if you do)
