Hondata IM gasket intstall , GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Just like to say **** you to this gasket install.
Im sure the gasket is great...but the installation of it sucks on gsrs.
I am about to buy a skunk2 IM just so this is easier.
Its soo ******* hard to get to the nuts under the IM on the gsr, its ******* big and bulky. Not only that..but after I was done, and filled up my rad...getting ready to flush it, water poored out that area of the gasket

Your stupid.
In english terms for people that cant read through the ranting...Dont use the hondata IM gasket washers, they cause more trouble then they are worth.
Understand now mr. simple mind?
You dont help people at all.
Take a look at this thread.

You answerd "ya use a deep socket"
If you dont know what your talking about, DONT HELP!. That part has no area where a "deep socket" would grip.

from the looks at my skunk2 manifold on my gsr head, if i were to get a hondata gasket it looks like i woul dhave to extend the studs off the head.

I just put my Hondata IM gaket on last week by my self. It's NOT HARD. The hardest part is removing the old gasket, which took me 1 1/2 hours to scraped it off. Also, my Hondata gasket did not come with washers.
Step 1 Open the drain under the radiator, drain it all
step 2 Remove strut tower bar, and intake
Step 3 Diconnect all sensors
Step 4 Remove all the IM bolt/nuts- Make sure you have various sized extentions to reach the underside of the IM.
step 5 Remove IM, Install GAsket, Put it all back together and torque it down, then retorque after driving it for a while.

haha yeah right, easy as 12345
takes a lil more effort than that.
the mod is only worht if it if you already have to take off your IM

i just put one on my 98 LS and it was tough but i killed 2 birds with one stone because i took the intake mainfold off and put in energy suspenion motor mount inserts in the one that is right below it and i put on the alt. pulley from Unorthodox Racing. It was tough but it wasn't that bad. maybe gsr's have more **** in the way. the washers they gave me where just fine... tightened them down and had no prob. great mod for the money though!!! gotta love cheap mods!!
taking off the old gasket was a bitch to!!! i used a little wire wheel. just make sure you plug up the holes with rags so no **** goes inside

i really didnt find it that hard either. of course i swapped my im gasket cuz the stock one was cracked and i had a vacuum leak causing a rough idle. but yes, the toughest part as seanb18c1 said was scraping the stock one off. that took the longest. the uninstall and reinstall of the IM wasnt as easy as swapping an exhaust, but it was very straightforward.

What are the pluses of doing this? My manifold kind of whistles....
Maybe the gasket is messed up. The last owner already f'd up my secondaries so who knows what else is missing.

you sure thats not your whistle tip exhaust?
check for vacuum leaks. if the stock gasket is cracked you'll end up having worse problems than whistling. you'l have a bouncy idle that sounds straight up nasty, and you'll throw an IACV CEL code.

Ok then my gasket is fine. All lines are hooked up, but evertime I work in that area I get nervous. Things I have found thus far...
-Only one bolt holding on the throttle bracket. (If this bolt wasnt tight my whole throttle could have been messed up)
-Only 2 bolts holding down distributor
-Bracket for secondaries messed up. Two of the tapped holes into the manifold are broken.
Hopefully I will have something to replace it in the fall though.
