Default problem during valve adjustment

I have the following tools
craftman 151 pieces
0.005-0.035 angled feeler gauge
"modified" 10mm wrench

even though I have oil leaking, I thought I'd get the valve gasket another day. So I proceed with the instruction found on team-integra and c-speedracing. After I pull off the valve cover and cc turn the pulley so the up mark on cam gears are both pointing up. I used the "speciality tool" and realize that the lock nut is in fact not 10mm!!!! Those reference instruction were done on a b18c1 while my engine is b18b1.

Apparently I need a bigger one, or, am I doing something wrong here?

cliff note: b18b1's lock nut isn't 10mm

I would definatly try to find LS instructions since it is VTECless and the 'tutorial' is for a vtec motor and their may or not be differences that can screw up your motor. I've personally never done one but though I'd throw in my .02. Good luck dude

Ok, this post in particular made me confused and angry at the same time.

Your 10mm socket obviously doesnt fit. Why the hell didnt you just try a larger socket instead of asking on a message forum?

Thinking for myself is great all of the photos/instructions I've seen are for b18c1 so instead of clicking on an "OMFG I fucked something up during my valve adjustment", you clicked on "problem during valve adjustment ".

I think it's commendable that I am attempting to DIY instead of wasting money.

I am going to try again in a few since you say I don't need it.

Does that mean the tool is only for b18c s?

Ok, you knwo you have a B18B motor. Why would you assume that its the same instructions for B18C1? Why not spend the money on a shop manual if you are going to be doing your own work?

Break the locknuts loose with a 12mm socket. They're on there tight. Then use a screwdriver and a 12mm box end wrench for the adjustment. When adjusted torque back to factory spec with the box ended wrench while holding the adjuster screw in place so the adjustment doesnt change.

The head must also be *cold* when doing the adjustment also.

thank you

btw c-speedracing stated this
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Here's a step by step how-to on doing a valve adjustment yourself on a B18C engine. All other B series engines will follow the same procedure as they all have the same firing order.</TD></TR></TABLE>
so I thought they'd be quite similar, I didn't expect that b18b1 doesn't need the speciality tool so I stopped there.

This is true

I just finish my valve adjustment, thanks everyone.

However, despite many of your warnings. I still snapped one of the valve cover bolt. . I'll just go to dealer ship and get a replacement for that.

only thing I needed was
a flat head
a set of feeler gauges
12mm wrench
12mm socket + rachet (to untighten the lock nuts, I used 12mm wrench for that and got a bloody wrist)

It was fair easy, the hard part was figuring things out.

we need more peopel that doesnt talk smack.. when its a first timers honest fault.. try to help the guy instead of trash talking .. and on another note the search works but sometimes you get faster response when you just ask.. ive looked for so many things on what i needed here .. most of the times its not the correct ones.. some times it is

Not trash talking.... the procedure is the same as detailed on the cspeed site, only the size of the locknut is different. I dont know why he didnt just try a larger socket to start with.

Anyways i dont knwo how a search is slower than asking a question. Searching you can find your answer right away and read through any snags or how-to's that anyone else wrote up. I dont see how waiting for a response is faster. Maybe lazier but oh well.

I just did a quick search and there were over 70 threads in the integra forum alone when i searched for "valve adjustment"
