yesterday, i heard a sony explod '900w' 12 inch in a sealed box, run by a jensen(suprisingy good) 250 x 2 amp

it was great, and i know subs, its sounds as good as my 12 inch ounch', better than my friends kickers and i compare the bass with my friend 2 jl audio w6's(dual voice coils, 8ohm)

you don't believe huh, neither did i, the sub is made great, looks strong and hardly vibrated, no distortion whatsoever, and i just heard my friends 2 explod 6x9's, i love them, they play crisp for a 3 way and are dead cheap


im gonna do some experiments in the near future, 2 12 inch explod to replace my punch's, and ima try some 5.25's for the mids.....


to all the sony explod haters, why do you call them bottom line?
i always dissed them until i heard the sub, the bass was tight and loud, very loud....

 

lol... good for you. IMO sony doesn't make subs, they make oversized midbasses.

xplod is okay...i wouldnt buy sony subs..but mids yeah...sub cheap subs out there do the job...

 

personally i think the speakers sounds flat... the highs are tinny and not smooth/soft/silky.. whatever you want to call it.

The subs are ok for bass, but IMO don't offer too much in the way of SQ

oh and a side note, their radio's is where i really don't like them... those and their amps. WAYYY to many problems with them

 

right on, i dont know why everyone hates on xplodes, cause i have 2 10" subs (xplodes) run by a JBL 600w and i think they sound great. they hit really hard and they were pretty cheap. i didnt get them by choice (x-mas gift) and at first i was a little dissapointed cause of how much people bash on em, but after installing em and actually listening to them i think they produce a great sounding bass, so im happy with em

 

let me set the recoed straight, explod h/u's and amps suck, but their subs and mids are great to me!
the 6x9's i heard were cleeeeeeeee an!!

 

i agree, i have had much problems with hu's, ampos, subs, actually every thing that sony makes for car sudio. if the sony 6x9's are cleeeeeeeean, waht do you call. rainbow's, mb quart, focal ect.....

or even infinity for that matter... alpine, etc

but seriously, ive heard infinity 6x9's, they were good, but the sony's play just as nice to me, i dunno, maybe it was the amp he had on them, a 100rms punch, but i like em, for a cheap mid range speaker they are bang for buck...

as for problems, why dont we have any problems with sony down here?
could we be getting the better product/
we cheapers live on explod cd changers and receivers and mp3 players, and ive NEVER heard of problems with ANY of them, and that is strange....

 

if sony speakers and subs sound clean to you then maybe you just havent heard any really good equipment
just my own opinion= sony car audio sucks
stick with sony for televisions but for car audio look elsewhere

Because I've heard what I consider to be superior equipment....have you ever head Dynaudio, CDT, a/d/s/, ID, Focal, Diamond (this list could go on for a long time....) gear?

word up man, basically what i was saying, i htink before you go and call sony good for car audio, go and listen to other, better components

 

They must have a bad rep for a reason...

everyone in car audio doesnt just decide to hate something one day.
every one I know either likes or dislikes certain products from personal experience with it.

There is a reason they are called Explode! I have seen a few amps and subs do just that "Explode" The only good thing Sony has ever come up with was the invention of the CD......and of course the Playstation and PS2. The home theater is good as well, but as for the car audio, In my professional opinion (been installing for about 10 years now) It is crap. It sucks, I would not give it away, seen better stuff in a pawn shop, would not wipe my *** with it, would not **** on it if it was on fire. Well you get my point.

the first gen. of sony flip faces that came out, we a had an entire case that were pooched. after powerup they read an error code, and it sounded like it was re setting over and over...

We had a customer put 10 - 10 inch explodes in his astro van. haha. he got them so cheap no one made fun him.

never had any problems with their amps. come to think of it, we didnt ever sell that many either...

Before you **** on it, mind giving me a SONY C90 and a XPD-4000X? Not everything they produced has sucked...sheesh...

ok, ok, ill admit, maybe the mids arent that fantastic, but the 900w subs pack some nice bass

well, im on a tight budget so im gonna buy explods for my mids, 5.25 and 6x9's, im gonna try and get them to sound as goos as possible, any suggestionsa?

and you can say i havent heard focal mids etc etc, but i know bass! and that 12 iunch explod was heavy, i compare it to some jl's i heard

 

alright power to explode am orderring 2 6X9 for rear and 2 for front

when i bought my speakers (3 years ago, mind you), i sound tested all the cheapo stuff: pioneer, sony xplod, and kenwoods. i bought the kenwoods because the high end was much crisper than the other two...they're decent, and are still tiding me over until i can afford infinity kappas.

the xplods i listened to were GARBAGE. occasionally i go to tweeter and just listen to lots of speakers and they've never impressed me. there are low end speakers that i enjoy, and high end speakers that i can't stand (boston acoustics anyone?), but sony xplods really are looowwww quality speakers. the imaging is terrible and while they might have a decent bass output they sound flat overall and there is just a complete lack of harmonic content/detail.

that said, depending on what you listen to it may not matter. and it's all a matter of preference anyway, or how picky you are. and ANYTHING is an upgrade over paper stock speakers.

oh, and i bought a sony h/u with those kenwoods...WORST THING EVER. had problems with skipping from day one.

 

Sony car audio is entry level. It's performance is similar to other products in the same price point. Their 4 way 6x9" speakers $99 sound just like anyone else's 4 way 6x9" speakers $99. Crap, but better than factory.

People bust on Sony because everything they have now is all gay and stupid looking appealing to silly kids looking for the the speaker with the most number of watts and amps with pretty shapes and colors on it. They have built some BADASS stuff in the past like the CDX-C90/XDP4000X and the ZES (?) system from a decade or so ago.
