Default Screened turbo inlets rock!

I was thinking....
sandwhich a piece of fleece or something else (ideas?) between two pieces of screen, clamp it down, and youre good to go! Right? I will be doing this on all of my turbo cars, because all of them are hard to get filters in...

I think its really dumb for the street. A K&N filter will filter better and straighten the air out better. Nothing like a big surface area for the air to travel through compared to a 3" diameter piece of cotton for 500cfm to go through.

what about the tiny fleece fibers that get torn out of the fabric because of the big vacuum pressure created by the compressor wheel? wouldn't those be a potential hazard?

I did exactly that for my old integra. I never ended up using it though I made an intake pipe and used a filter instead. I think it'll work ok for low hp applications, but i think it'll be a restriction if you're making big hp.

i used panty hose sandwiched inbetween screen door material. I clean the inlet to the turbo prior to trying then a week later i took it off to see how much **** got in there......nothing it was clean i smacked the homemade filter and a bunch of dirt/dust came off it. it works good. Just dont strech the panty hose or it'll make the holes in the material bigger. just a cheep idea. Nothing will be better than a actual "filter" though.

Im building a manifold for my street car that will place it forward. I want to be able to ditch the filter at the track when needed, so this is why Im inquiring. Oh ya, there will be funneling contraptions to scoop air right into the inlet...

I took a K&N drop-in filter, cut out a section, flattened it, and clamped it over the inlet:

It works well for about 2 weeks, then the element gets dirty and needs to be changed. I got tired of changing it every couple weeks, so I just ran the two layers of mesh for about two years before I got my A'PEXi filter on.

would there be room for a more narrow filter like the hks mushroom? if you pushed it all the way onto the compressor it would prolly only stick out 4inchs

i recommend you fitting a filter on there man. find something that will fit. it's very dusty on the road...and it can collects up quick and shorten the life of your turbo...it can get really nasty in the compressor. how hard is it to pull the filter when you're at the track....

$12 can save your turbo
