Default Is the JDM P73 ECU worth a shot?

A friend of mine can get me one for next to nothing (he has family there) and my searches came up empty. Just wondering if I should even bother or if it's worth something at all. Are we talking minimal top end gains if any? Also, how different would the fuel requirements be. I normally use 94 octane.
Thanks!
