If you have read the kill stories lately I posted a race agaisnt a Regal in which I barely won due to crappy driving on my part. The guys in the kill forum say that a Regal would give a Type-R a run for its money. Is this true? What are a stock Regals specs?
I'm surprised you kept up with the Regal. They are pretty quick.
I believe its the same turbo six thats in a Grand National. (I could be wrong).
Grand nationals romp all over the LT1's and LS1 at the strip all day long!
If there were any turns on the road you were on, then you would definitely get a decent lead.

If he's talking about the newer Regal S/C, then it's a bit different. I think that the Grand National (GNX was the name for the fastest one) had a turbo six which was fast as hell. However, the GM 3.8 pushrod 6 dates back to sometime in the late Jurassic so it is probably the same basic engine, just with different F/I applications.
If anyone is interested here is a site that explains a lot about the older Regals, Grand Nationals, and GNX. All this is moot if the car Active Aero is talking about is a newer Regal Sedan (which has 240hp).

Don't be too scared guys.
Our ITRs will take them (same performance as the Gran Prix GTP). If you're only an average driver it will be close or you *could* lose, but my $$ is on the R.

I lost to a new buick regal at the strip. Granted my drag racing skills are very lacking...but he run 14.2 to my 14.9.....so there....
14.2 is impressive, I didn't think they could run that fast. I assume you are talking about the 4-door family hauler since you said new. Was it modded? Those things are heavy as hell. But if it ran a 14.2 there is no way you could have beat it unless your car is modded. A Stock R might pull 14.5 with a really good driver.
A Buick Regal is so far from being "faster" than an ITR, it's quite hilarious just thinking about it!
Sure, it might have the straight line acceleration of a Type R, but if you have a race at an autox or a track, you'll definitely know that it's pretty pointless comparing these two cars.
No way a Regal is faster than an ITR, even putting R tires on the buick probably won't change the outcome.

Type (GS) 3.8-liter 3800 SFI1
Series II Supercharged V6
Horsepower 240 @ 5200 rpm
Torque (lb-ft) 280 @ 3600 rpm
Axle ratio 2.93
Fuel economy (city/hwy) 18/27mpg2
Those are the numbers for the S/C GS. I have seen guys use different pulleys on the S/C running close to 280+ hp.
Boba- who remembers a couple years ago of the Pontiac GTP w/280 hp. It was the Richard Petty Edition.

yah, it was the 4 door, grocery hauler, for the "supercharged" family....
Now that i think of it, i am not exactly sure if it was 14.4 or 14.2, but he was definatelly faster than me. There were no external mods, but it is highly possible that he was running a different pulley to increase the boost. He knew what he was doing, he cut a .5xxx light, grabbed the lead, and never looked back.....DAMN HIM!

Yeah, my idiot, redneck co-worker has a Buick Regal GS. It has some stupid decals in the back that say, "Not your Grandpa's Buick 240 HP and 2000 watts"
I still can't believe we're comparing to the R to this boat. Oh well...yeah they go faster with a bigger pulley. So what. 3.8L S/C 6 cyl vs 1.8L 4 cyl... which is more impressive? Not to mention the R will do laps around it on a road course and drop many seconds on one at an AutoX in stock form.

HRACER and YD - we all know that not many cars compare to the R on a twisty course. But the kill in question was done on a strip, where the Regal GS can beat a stock R.
sackdz - 5-60mph rolling starts are always a mite slower than 0-60 standing starts, for any car.

Speaking of the older GN's and whatnot, what's the deal with the T-Type? Same engine, fewer standard features is what I thought. There's one at the state surplus auction right now. If it's the same turbo six as the GN, could be fun!!
I love the GNX and everything, but the turbo six to have was the 1980-something Trans Am Indy500 Pace Car. It had the Turbo 3.8 and is STILL the quickest F-body coupe ever, besting even the modern WS6 from what I understand. I saw one on the highway the other day and revved on it but he didn't bite. I want one.
Pat,
The T-types are typically non-intercooled. SO power output is a little lower, but a call Duttwieler performance can get that Buick going faster.
Boba- who's neighbor has a 10 sec daily drivin T-type that will pull the front wheels off the ground.

Ross1013 ~ not to correct you, but IMO the GM turbo 6 to have is the Cyclone S10 pickup.
I would chose a Buick GN if I had my choice though.
YD, who used to own a 84 Buick Regal and loved that non-turbo beater...
