Default Can't beat a Prelude?

Ok, so I finally decide to test my newly equipped B16 91 STD Civic against my friends stock '97 Prelude. We were on the freeway racing from roll, and he totally killed me, is this just because of the tranny, or what?

Do a REAL race...Like from a stand still not from a rolling start

Yea do it from a stand still. Even though his car is heavier than yours, you guys were on the freeway, not at a stand still so weight didnt play as much of a role...so his torque just pulled him up up n awayyyyyy. Either that or you didnt downshift to the right gear.

I raced a prelude before also but it was from a standstill and I lost but I had three of my boys in the car I have the same setup as you just mine is a Si. And we raced like 3 times, it was just spur of the moment type thing I usaully don't do dumb **** like that but what the hell. I don't know what he had done though but I had three of my boys in the car and my boys ain't small. Just race him from a stand still then let us know what happens.

You should have pulled on him. Go from a standstill and then tell us. What is your set-up? I have a B16 I/H/E on my DX and the thing pulls like a banshee! Stock Prelude's can stay close but shouldn't win unless the civic driver misses a shift...etc.

I downshifted correctly, and I was pulling hard. Lol, one thing I forgot to mention however, my mugen chip wasn't hooked up to my pm6 at the time, so my redline cutoff was 6800. Now I got the good ol' 8200, I'm sure things will be MUCH different, 1400 rpms matters.

Actually that's what a V8 is for, if you want torque don't get a 4 cylinder.

tourque is not much of a factor on the highway when the revs are already up......tourque gets you out of the hole when dragracing.....or towing.

you cant generate hp w/o torque. to put your theory to shame, launch at 7k on your b16 then. something w/ more torque will still own your ***.

6800

So wonder you lost. Did you hit the rev limiter or did you just shift before the revs got that high.. ?

Rev limiter hit, my mugen chip wasn't in at the time.

do a stand still. but if you insist on a rolling start do this-if you are on the highway in 5th gear, when he gives the ok to start racing slam it into 3rd.. you will instantly be in 7krpm or so and in the nice part of vtec-watch your redline and RACE!!!! you will surprise the **** out of him 4 sure!!
