What size is the front speakers on a 92 accord EX? With installation am I going to have to take the whole interior door panel. B.c if so I will just replace the window motor at the same time. And with the rear / I have been reading that they take 6x9s -- will I have to cut or do anything extra? -- any help with links / personal know how/ or online manuals would be greatly appreciated. ~thanks.

 

This thread should really be in the audio forum but I will answer anyway. The front speakers are 4", and the door panel does have to come off. The rear apeakers are 6 by 9's and all you have to do is remove the three nuts that hold the housing to the rear deck. They are accessable from inside the trunk. Remove the cover and the screws that hold the speaker down and you are done.

 

Also the front are 4 inch but do NOT buy 4 inch speakers, they will not sound right, the ones that Honda uses are meant to go with those funky plastic enclosures, anything else doesn't sound right, what you can do is get the speaker baskets for a DX. The DX had 6.5 inchers in the front doors. All you do is remove those huge plastic speaker housings, and put the new speaker in the basket and install the basket, I used Pioneers and they fit perfect and sound good.

 

now why would the DX have bigger speakers if the EX is the higher model?

i put a set of kenwood 200 watt 6.5 speakers in my friends car a few weeks ago and yeah the 6.5 will work on a DX but i will see soon what size the ex uses because i gotta install speakers in my car soon ...

 

just replaced mine 6's all the way around had to mod the back plastic thing but sound great! (93 LX) the front one's fit with out a problem.

 

Here are all the options for the 93 Accord as you can see there were two different speakers taht could come in the 5 inch size (sorry thought they were 4 for some reason) the Speaker with the wizzer cone is the 6.5 inch it's number 2 in the picture, the basket you need is number 1 in the picture. Also depending on Model you could have 6.5's in the rear or 6x9's in the rear. Depens on the trim level of the car in question.

The speaker is much higher quality for being only 5" plus that whole enclosure is matched to the speaker. The factory 5" in the EX has a stronger and heavier magnet, etc. With the DX all you get is the front 6.5's so they really didn't have room to skimp out. On second thought wasn't the radio an option on the DX? It might not have come with a radio.

You don't "have" to buy the bracket but it sure made it all a nice fit, although I think that you need to be sure that the speaker is not all that deep. The pioneers that I used fit perfectly, I got the baskets becuase they are also designed to shed water away from the speaker, figured it would be good for them. Here's some picutres I took of the factory 5 inch speaker v/s the factory 6.5 inch speaker.



Another advantage of the 5 inchers over the 6.5 MADE IN THE USA!!!





Here is the speaker enclosure, seems to work off the same principle that makes that bose wavetable radio sound so good for it's size, all those channels in the plastic enclosure make the bass sound like it's coming from a larger speaker.



As you can see here where the foam is, it's the same size as a 6.5 inch speaker would be in the same opening...

haha, thanks for the info. when i get enough money, i'm gonna get some new speakers. any recomendations? i have two 10" subs in my trunk, so i dont need any bass making speakers.

 

I have a 93 Accord 2 door LX- What size speakers (front and rear) does my car come with? I want to upgrade my speakers, but them to fit like factory.

Let me EXPLAIN THIS ONE LAST TIME FOR EVERYONE 90-93 EX and SE have 5" in the front and 6x9" in the rear. 90-93 DX and LX have 6.5" in the front and 6.5" in the rear. Personally I did the front swap to the 6.5" cuz the brakets were only $17 each from the dealer.

 

yea, what NorCalRacer1 said is correct. ive got a 91 Ex. i have pioneer 3way 6.5"s. and in the back ive got pioneer 4way 6"x9"s. i made my own custom brackets for the front from 3/4" plywood. i made a stencil out of paper to mimic the way the door is shaped. then i made them and bolted them right into the door. the install for the rear speakers was a lot easier. the old speakers came out with three bolts each. i did have to cut the trunk springs with a dremel (it was the extra part of the spring so it didnt matter) because the new speakers i got were too deep.

That's not right, the 93 ex for a FACT has 5" in the front, in enclosures. ANd the SE with the Bose system has the enclosure that is numbered 15-17 in this diagram. Also the size of the speaker is not given due to it being part of the Bose Assembly. 92 EX also has 5" in front and 6X9 in rear, 91 has 5" in front and 6x9 in rear.
