3rd Gear Grinding?!?!
I purchased a 95 Integra LS in Mid-January and about a month and a half ago 3rd gear started grinding whenever I shifted into it. The grinding occurs when I put the gear in, and it happens OVER 4000 rpms. It does not grind when downshifting either, only when going from 2nd to 3rd over 4000. I heard it was a common problem with LS transmissions. What should I do? Buy a whole new 3rd gear from the dealership and replace the one I have, or buy a new transmission and have that installed? I do not have a lot of money to spend on this either, if anyone has any suggestions or advice, please respond, I would appreciate it. Thanks
Try some new transmission fluid in the mean time. A friend of mine had rough third gear w/ his 1st Gen B16A tranny, and some redline fluid solved the problem. If you want, I can hook you up with a couple bottles.
This is only a partial/temp. fix though, and your best bet would be to wait until it gets really bad or until your clutch dies or something, and then swap in a transmission with better gears anyway.

try GM syncromesh fluid. does wonders.
also, if you wanna get dirty, check out the 1-2 shifter fork for any bending or crap, and also try to take a look at the syncro for 3rd. replace what needs to be replaced
hell, do all 3, problem should be solved.

Replacing the synchro is A LOT of difficult work. If you can't do it yourself, it would cost an arm and a leg. He'd be better off buying another transmission.

actually if you can find a syncro from an old tranny i have a couple of buddies that would do it for a very affordable price..garage style. i dunno about dohc but d series shifter forks are around 50 bucks from the dealer. so if he got that and found a syncro from an old tranny where someone didnt break THAT syncro, hed be set. on him tho. i know luckyracing on this board does excellent work for good price. its all preference just offering a different idea.
like u say tho, maybe get another one, after all, it IS a ls tranny. if he could find a b16a or gsr or type R tranny, then hell, go for that.
IM Mista Bone, hes the tranny guru. maybe he can help you out.
