Default tranny codes: they mean nothing!

well i was looking around for a used GS-R tranny and was told it's a S80 or Y80. well now i found out that S80 or Y80 could be either the LS, GS-R or ITR tranny according to http://tiiite.b16a.com/Bgears.htm.

the tranny in my LS is a S80 and the tranny in my freinds GS-R is a S80 as well. so how the hell are you supposed to know which is which?

i guess the only way would be to drive the car to see if the gears are shorter, or to take the tranny apart and inspect the gears?

is there any other way of telling the LS tranny apart from the GS-R tranny?

When it comes to LS, GSR and ITR trannies you have to go by the serial number because GSR's have S80 and Y80 trannies. I will post the JDM GSR and ITR tranny code and serial number break down later when I get home!

ITR trannies have "LSD" written on the top of them.
