The 98+ are wrapped in leather, where as the older shift ***** are just plastic. That's the only difference.

I have a 98 and mines not wrapped in leather... its just some kindve rubber material. I think it was 99 or 2000 and up maybe

I agree, i have a 98 gsr it was wasn't leather wrapped, but a rubber imitation where everything wore down to a shine.

I have a 98 GS and mine is wrapped in leather, I don't see why a GSR wouldn't be!

hmm.... thats something that i'd never noticed between tegs... perhaps they skipped a year in 98. Seeing as how in 98 there were quite a few other small changes to the teg... perhaps they overlooked the ****, then in 99 corrected it. hahha i dunno.
