Remove the 10mm bolt, remove the little keyway plate thing.
Grab the top of the sensor, NOT THE CABLE, and wobble it while pulling upward.
It will work it's way out eventually.. It's a real pain in the *** because it's machined to be a TIGHT fit. Sometimes WD-40 helps.

Use lots of penetrating oil, and sit there for an hour wiggling the top of the VSS back and forth, side to side, to break the corrosion that has built up between the 2 pieces of aluminum. There is actually an o-ring in there, but the metal is just tight enough, that the o-ring doesn't have to work very hard to maintain the seal. However there is enough room for some good corrosion to take place, and seize it up pretty good. Be patient, or you will pull the metal piece out of the aluminum, and then you'll be fucked.

I did this today and your guys instructions are way too difficult. All you do is...
1. Pull off the rubber boot covering the VSS.
2. Pull off the obvious retaining clip.
3. Pull out the speedo cable, it's not even in super tight.
Thats it, not hard at all, you can do if with your bare hands.

Hmmm maybe you guys are talking about something else. I thought you were talking about the speedocable that goes into the sensor. I wasn't talking about the actual sensor itself, sorry my bad.
