Default 1988 Accord

Can anyone recommend a good engine swap for an '88 Accord? I just got an 88 LX sedan with the stock engine. The car looks good but there is just no power under the hood at all. I feel like a loser cuz I got a car that looks fast but runs 0-60 slower than a motorized wheelchair. Any help would be appreciated

i love answerin my own question it lets my total posts get higher lol
yeah its 3rd generation it came stock with a A20A3 WTF? what is that
omg it only had 122HP ouch im trying to find a swap for you thats not to hard.
i would think you could put an f22b1 in there that would give you 145 hp
and hey id be vtec but i dont know how hard that swap would be can someone
else post on this?

Well, It's nice to get a helpful response from someone. thank you. My next question is what will that extra 23 horsepower really do for me? Is it going to be a dramatic increase in power? I guess my other question would be what else do I have to change on the car. Am I going to need a different tranny or something too? I know with some swaps you need to upgrade other parts of the car as well. Also, I tried to find my engine number where the service manual says its supposed to be and it wasn't there. The original windows sticker for the car say my engine numer is A20A1.

Yes your engine code is A20A1. The LXi was the A20A3 engine. Also just as a correction, the A20A1 has 98 hp, not 122 . For some more info, check out www.3geez.com . They have an "engine swap" section

Yup the 3rd gen came with two different engines. The DX and LX had the carb'd 98 hp A20A1, and the LX-i and SE-i had the fuel injected 120 hp ('89) or 110 hp ('86-'88) A20A3

Well, I tried going to the website http://www.3geez.com and it gave me some trouble. I am going to try later. Does anyone have any other sites I can go to for swap information? I appreciate the help I am getting here. i thank you all very much for your time.

I have a friend that ran a b18b block and tranny in his 89 LX-i..he said it took some work, but the handling really improved due to the lightness of that block compared to the stock one.

embalmer,

There are several engine swap options for 86-89 Accords. The easiest is the engine from the JDM 86-89 Accord Si which is good for 160hp. The other engine options are the B16A, B17A, B18A/C and B20B/Z. To install these engines a mount kit is required which is manufactured by Place Racing. The biggest restriction with the car you have now is that it is carburated. You would need to convert to EFI before performing a swap. For more ideas on your car visit the 3rd gen Accord message board. Just follow the link from http://86-89accord.com

There isn't a whole lot that you can do wiith your a20a1 motor... You can swap the carb and get a webber carb or dual mukkin carbs....
The easiest way would be just to swap the motor to the a20a3---Fuel injection... You could swap to a b18 or an h22 motor--takes a little work...

If you really want to, swap to the JDM b20 motor--this motor cam stock in the accord in japan and a few other countries... You will have to look for a manual trans... An auto is pretty easy to obtain..
The JDM b20 motor came in the 2nd gen prelude and 3rd gen accord (IN JAPAN ONLY) this motor did not come in any other car-----the USDM 3rd gen prelude is a b20, but it is not the same motor...

Could always go turbo......
