Just wanted to see who was interested in going to the autox at El Toro on July 7 & 8. From what I understand, July 7 is a practice session but I think you'll be able to get a lot more seat time than the standard autox, which is on July 8... anyone local going? How do I sign up for the practice session? who should I contact?

Watching only pumps you up and makes you wish you were driving the course... hehe it always does for me when I'm watching the first group line up in grid...

 

yes you should participate. just make sure to stop by the gas station and inflate your tires a bit. I dont know how a much PSI a teg should run but if you have stock tires, then run around the low 40 range(40-45). Otherwise, El Toro is gonna chew them up. i ran last one at 38 and it killed the side wall off the crappy michelins.

 

MintyDip, just go and participate, you'll have a blast. Yur sure to meet some people there that will show you whats up. If you get the chance, try to ride with some experienced drivers, and it'll help you out alot.

Thanks for posting this topic silverGS (sorry for being so informal, but I wasn't sure if you would mind me calling you by your name). I see that Mintydip is asking the same questions as I am. I'm not sure whether to just watch the first time or to participate. I think I'm just going to watch and collect information to prepare myself for when I do participate the next time around. Besides, I'm ordering tires now and I dont think my current ones will hold up.

I'll check my schedule now and try to free up that day. It would be cool if us locals could meet up and go. At lease now I know I wont be the only novice there.

Darn, looks like I'm going to be running with my michelins... again... dang, that's 4 autocrosses on the xgt-crapolas... sheesh. I recommend 45 psi up front and 40 on the rear for the crapolas, and adjust appropriately...

I'm thinking of going on saturday for the practice session just cuz I want the additional seat time... mebbe I'll hit sunday too... In any case, I'll definitely see some of you there... maybe I'll be sporting my new Honda-Tech.com stickers too! (That's an additional 50 whp there, btw...)

LOL David, be carefull with those tires. They arent that good brand new so I can only imagine how they are after 4 autox's. I'm looking forward to going for the first time even though I will just be watching.

MintyDip- Yep, lol, I'll have my notebook and pencil in hand. I guess we are now the official autox benchwarmers for this event , any others want to join? I'm down if anybody wants to meet up for breakfast or just to meet up for the drive over there.

By the way, those are nice pics, thats the only time I've seen 3-wheel motion on anything other than a 64 chevy impala.

Crap I just remembered I'm gonna be out of town that day. Damn....looks like I gotta miss this one too.

 

I highly recommend at least getting out there to watch. I went out about 3 times in '99 to watch for a couple hours here and there. I wanted to know if it was something that was safe (were people running into each other or trashing their cars?) What did you need to bring and do and what cars were excepted? This was back when I had a '98 Civic EX coupe and it was cool to see a collection of other 6gen Civics out there.

When I did start racing, I started hanging out with this other '98 Civic racer and he was cool. I learned alot from him (biggest thing I learned was to increase the front tire pressure up to 50psi! - this was with street tires). I highly recommend hanging out with someone that drives a similar car and is faster than you. You will learn a ton of stuff! Now that I have a '95 GS-R, I hang out with Brett! Brett beats me at every event, so my goal this season is to keep getting my times closer to Brett's.

Trying to keep up with Brett is pretty tough. The Type-R has a bit of an advantage over the GS-R and Brett not only knows all the good car mod tricks, but he always finds the fastest line.
