Did anyone actually get a certificate from the dealer that stated the Serial number and number of cars built for your year that would allow you to get the car registered as a "COLLECTOR"?
I was told these existed but I'm getting the proverbial blank stare when I ask about it from the dealer.

really... could somebody post this. I would like to have one
or put it up in my room even. I would modify it. of course it would not be real... just pretty cool.

add .orig.gif for a higher-resolution version.
Might have to cut and paste as well from Imagestation

As you can see I have '97 #239 (hence the name 97ITR239). I never got this certificate. I called the dealer where I bought the car 6 years ago and they had no idea what I'm talking about. Probably because it was the only '97 they got. Hopefully, I can track it down from American Honda.
BTW, thanks for posting the scan Ed. I am going to be sending this to some folks from AH so they know what I'm talking about.

awesome. this actually may help me convince the people at statefarm that my car is indeed, a collector.
first time i called in they told me basically no, because its just it was made in 2000, opposed to being made like a vintage year like in 1957 or something

I heard they hired an Ad Agency to do these in 97.

I would think so. I think the scca autocrossing rules say anything under 5000 units per year isn't classified as a production car. I would bet DMV has something simular.

SO IF IT'S NOT NOW, WOULD YOU WANT IT AS A "COLLECTOR"?

Maybe someone here can get Honda - Acura to set something up by VIN numbers.
Or, someone can photoshop one for other years if the true production numbers were known.
Albany, eh!
I need to make another dentist appointment w/my cousin's Office.

Allright folks, here's the real story. I won't tell you who I got all this information from (names have been changed/eliminated to protect the innocent) but rest assured it comes from as high as you can go in American and Canadian Honda. All I did was cut and paste e-mail responses....
From AH -
As far as I know, AHM never did anything like this for Type-R. If
authentic, this certificate is from Honda Canada (that's where Jerry is/was from and the tag line at the bottom is/was their's). Sorry!
"Mike"
Moving on to contacts at Honda Canada -
Hi Lee,
The signature on the certificate is that of Jerry ****. He is now Honda Canada's Vice President - Advertising. Perhaps you could e-mail him to get the background on these certificates.
If I remember correctly, this was done independently by CH Acura Sales to "add value" for the original purchasers of the Type-R in Canada, it did not come with the cars from Japan.
John.
Finally, from the the man who signed the certificates himself -
"Hi there. Thanks for the question.
At the time we brought the Type-R to Canada, there were literally hundereds of "look-a-likes" running around, where people had taken a regular Integra and dressed it up to look like a Type-R (at that time the car was available in Japan, so pictures were readily available for customers to dress up their Integra.)
So we decided to differentiate for the "real" Type-R customer by giving a certificate. This was the logic.
Regards. Jerry *****"
So there you have it... a piece of Type R history revealed. Unfortunately, those of us in the US were not supposed to receive such documentation and never will. Damn! I still want one.

if you list it as a collector, wouldnt the premium go up ?
well if you could list it as a colector, would it be like the hotrod guys who can do anything to theirs car illegally and get away with it becuase they are collectors or antiques or whatever?
if so thne it would be worth it. . . but i dont see having it done and thne the insurance going up

so for those canadians on the board, who did end up getting one?
I remember my salesman talking about it, but I never did get one. Does anybody have the email of someone at honda who can send me one?
