SOHC ZC and D16a6..cousins or brothers?
I have a sohc ZC in my 90 right now, its got an A6 header, intake mani, ecu (etc.) on it. I also have a p&p A6 head waiting for a home.
I was always under the impression that the 2 engines were the same aside from pistons/cams. I assumed that swapping the A6 head onto the ZC would up the compression considerably (used that c-speed chart) and everything would line right up. But I was informed this weekend that the head bolts DON'T line up and the heads are not interchangeable...
Does anyone know for sure?

from my understanding the heads have the same bolt pattern. The DOHC ZC does not have the same bolt pattern. Well it does have the same pattern, just the bolts are bigger for the DOHC. But I am about 99% sure the SOHC will work.
I also think that they're brothers. They're basically the same engine, just that the sohc ZC makes more power and has a slightly different cam and pistons.
Whoever is giving you that info clearly has their head up their ***---the bolt patterns are identical. What the sohcZC has over the a6 is a slightly more aggressive cam, domed-shaped pistons, and about 10 more hp give or take a couple. Slap your a6 head on, and use a metal y8 head gasket and you'll have a mean little 1.6.
Well that info came from a pretty reputible shop owner in the madison area. I didnt want to take my head off w/o knowing for sure. I have to repopulate the p&p head, and then Ill use the ZC cam and let you guys know how things turn out.

I think the shop is confusing the SOHC ZC and the DOHC ZC heads. The bolt patterns are different between the two. The SOHC ZC head has the same pattern as the D16A6 head (88-91 Civic/CRX Si). The DOHC ZC head has the same pattern as the D16A1 (86-89 Integra) head.

I second the confusing between DOHC and SOHC ZC. When most people think ZC they think the DOHC one so that guy is probably just confused.
