Default autox classing and competition

ive recently picked up a 97 civic hatch. I was wondering if it would be worth running in a stock class and whether or not it would be competitive at all. If not would i be better of swapping the motor and running in a higher class or eventually running it as an h1 car. For now i just want some seat time but i would like know what you guys would do..ive been autocrossing a friends 89 civic si and im hooked.

Leave it stock so you can tune it to the class you want to be in (if you want to limit your modifications based upon SCCA rules). The competition will depend upon your region, but since everyone is stock, it should give you a good challenge.

stock is an excellent place to play as is street touring. driving a stock car in street touring is your best bet for low cost and good seat time. and if you have to play with the car you can do just a rear swaybar.

Welcome to the temple of speed. It's so cool that their is a place to drive at the limits.

If you must tune, tune for stock first... adjustable shocks, DOT legal R compound tires, cat-back exhaust.

I don't think STS allows engine swaps, I believe that puts you in a Modified Class...

However if you've got the money swapping is a consideration, but in order to be competitive, prepare to spend mucho denaro on suspension, wheels, motor, etc.

The best thing you can do, if you're just starting out, keep it stock, don't worry too much about the car yet... just get as much seat time as possible, and ride with instructors!

Put all the money you have into an Evolution Performance Driving School. Phase 1 and 2.

That's all you need to do if you want to be fast. Don't waste money on modifications. They won't make you faster.

Learn the limits on street tires, then make the transition to R-compounds. That's it.

You can spend $500 on shocks and drop a tenth of a second, and you could spend the same amount of money on an Evo School and drop 10 seconds.

look at the calender and try to find one in your area.

good luck,
