The Japanese have some odd infatuation for vans. Its been that way for a while, and you can see the derived 'boxiness' in the new suziki and other models. I guess in some cases its bigger than the average downtown apartment...

They (Japanese people) call those "Vanning"
Means that Van as a vehicle, and ing as progressive noun.

Do they drive around like that? I mean that sounds like a dumb question but I can barely get over speed bumps without 16 feet of useless fiberglass hanging off either end.

Those vans are cool, I have a video magazine called "Vanner", it's like the option 2 for those vans. They do some crazy cool custom work. One guy in the video has a live traditional Japanese garden in his van. Other people have vans that have full dj booths and stripper poles, crazy sound systems, intricate murals, etc. It's fun to see how they turn vans, mostly Previas, into these crazy works.
