Remote start, on a 5-speed with a little twist
I know this topic in general has been covered but I have another quick question. I don't have an amazing or unique car that I'm at all worried about that I need a security system and I live in a good area where I've never heard anything bad so the security isnt a deal for me. What I'm wondering is if there is anyway I can get just a remote start installed while keeping the rest of the factory security and keyless intact and just have the factory remote and then another remote for the remote start.

Yes, but thats Micky mouse.
your new remote start manette will be able to control the locks and OEM arming and disarmming of your car. That way you dont have to carry 2 manettes. it will cost a bit more, but its obviously worth it.

the DEI Valet 551T is an add-on that is able to work with most alarms (factory or not). Not sure if it will interface correctly with your factory, or if DEI makes it anymore (seeing how I haven't seen it in a while), but it might be worth looking into
No, I actually WANT 2 remotes, because I will use the keyless entry everytime i go to the car, along with trunk pop, and I probably wont use the remote start too often so I want a seperate remote.
Ok, I have been looking online a little bit and I was wondering if anyone can give me any specific model as to what I'm looking for. Do they make special remote start packages that are for manual tranny cars? If not, what allow you to actually wire up stuff to the parking brake/and shifter so the car wont take off. I looking for some more info now. I dont want security or keyless, just another remote where i can push a button and have it start, yet have my factory keyless work

if you want 2 remotes just go to walmart or autozone and buy their $35 doller do-it-yourslef remote start. It cames with a video that shows how to install it. My friend did it, works fine. Nice and cheep too.
the only thing is, I'm looking for one that is also made for manual transmission start, like you have to have it in ready mode when you get out of the car
Dood just get an alarm thats meant for manual tranny remote start.
Why play the two remotes mickey mouse bullshit?
Most companies won't install remote start on a 5 speed for liabaility reason. You'll prolly start your car into a wall or another car.
Most remote start system made for manual cars you have to - put car in neutral, apply ebrake, push buttons on remote, get out of car and alarm it. You have to go through this procedure everytime you want to start it, unlike an automatic.
When it comes to alarms, you get what you pay for.

The mickey mouse bullshit is I dont need a car alarm, nor do I want one. Yes, you get what you pay for, but why would I want to pay for what I dont even need or want. All I want is almost like an add on to factory system that has remote start.
honestly, no remote start is ment for a manual. They have no way of telling if the car is in gear or not, and the parking brake won't stop the mad torque the starter engine is going to put down to the wheels when parked in first gear. You'd have to make a switch setup if you wanted to make sure it wasn't in gear, or get use to parking it in neutral.
I'll make it real simple for you:
All factory keyless systems
have a rf or ignition lockout... the
transmitter wont recieve any signals
while its running...sort of a failsafe to keep
you from falling out or trunk opening while
your driving along the highway.....well guess
what happens if you add a remote start to yourcar add you want to open the door...it
won't work...just a FYI.
As for not getting an alarm....its your car. My
advice is to get one. Nothing suck worse than
being VIOLATED ....and its not a matter
of if...its when

I'll start off with the first comment, there IS remote starts made FOR manual transmission cars. Check it out, here's one. http://transponderbypass.com/cs423.asp?cid=26 They have something that will tell you if its in gear or not, and you have a sensor to tell if the E brake is on or not, and you actually have to put the car into ready mode before you start it.
Audioroach:
I understand what your saying about it not being able to start because the car is running. So whats happens if I get a real alarm? all of this is taken into account for and then you can have remote start and be able to keyless into the car while it is running? Hopefully that is what you are trying to say.
I do not need an alarm, and I dont think I ever will. I dont even lock my doors most of the time. No one I know in my area has ever had any problems and I don't see it ever happening. If something happens to me, I still wont get an alarm, I will just figure lightining never strikes twice.

Look again... it DOES NOT know if it's in gear. It only knows when the doors have been opened. The only thing here is the exiting thing, but what if you do it by force of habbit some time and your car isn't in neutral?

Not to mention as I said before, your car WILL MOVE with the ebrake on. Honda ebrakes are not that strong, and the starter when the car is in 1st will overpower the parking brake really easy. Don't believe me? You'll have to jumper your clutch switch (which you'd have to do for the remote start anyhow)... put your car in first with the ebrake on and crank it. It will move forward. Hard as hell on your starter too. Not quite as bad as w/o the parking brake where your car will fire right up and literally drive its self. If you're going to do a remote start in a manual make a L shaped plate with a push switch, and position it so when you park in 1st it pushs the switch (if you use a hood pin switch it would brake the ground connect when you're in first. Connect this to the neutral safety switch input (ground input) on the remote start. This way when you remote start it and it's in gear, it will just ignore the remote start command. This is the *ONLY* safe way to do it, and even it has the risk of the switch moving over time and the gear shifter not hitting the switch properly

Your honda keyless has a lockout mode:when the car is running (or ignition is on) you can't unlock the doors or work the trunk...its a safety feature....remote starts systems dont have this problem. All I am stating is if you add only a remote start and keep the honda keyless for unlocking and trunk releasing..you are in for a very rude awakening. What you can do is get a remote start system that can do both...the cost is about what you would pay for the remote start alone.
As for you getting an alarm....its your choice alone...the collective H-T are just looking out for you...as for me I speaking based on over
20 years of installing. I have seen the changes and trends..heck look at the stolen car posts that appear daily here. What people dont think about is...TIME! How much is yours worth? No insurance company is gonna compensate you for your time lost if anything happens to your car. Time is a very valuable commidity.....and considering the price of a full system is about $450-500.00 total installed on your car...consider what your time is worth if it was stolen from you.
I'm not hear to preach or babble...I see views like yours on a daily basis..and i also see those who just got the replacement for the stolen car and want fort knox type gear.
Bottom line...No matter how quiet or secure
your area is...your car is at risk...period.
What you do about it...is your choice.

Yes, I carry my wallet in my back pocket. I don't know about the bums because I haven't seen any in a while, plus, I usually dont have that much money to count. That's cool that you can make assumptions like that without even knowing me, that really mature. Just because I don't live exposed to this type of stuff everyday doesn't mean I don't know whats going on.

And you know what, If I am the one that it happens to the insurance company is going to cover it and it won't be that big of a deal. Its not even worth the $500 and the annoying security system. I see it all the time where I go to school, I think people who have security systems get their car fucked with more than those who don't. Even if they are just idle threats, people rocking their cars and throwing **** at them just to have them go off. The one thing I always hear on this board is, no matter what, if a theif wants your car, he is going to get it. What's the point in me paying $500 + for a good security system when everyone says they are going to take it anyways. The factory one goes off if doors or hood or anything gets opened while its on, so why isnt that good enough if they can just take it anyways.

Yea? and whats your point? If I had a $500+ security system he wouldn't follow me and he wouldn't be able to get my car? Sounds like a pointless statement to me.
Basically, I think its a dick statement saying that I have no clue because you have no idea what I think or know. I know I am at risk, granted my risk might be much less than some other people but I am willing to take that risk and whats wrong with my factory security anyways? I am willing to take the risk that something happens. IF it does, security will cover it, and then I get a new car, another fun project, and a new toy. And I still won't get a fort knox alarm.

if you read real cafully you will notice that all you are doing is buying a car with remote start and turbo timer
but the turbo timer is what will allow you to make sure the car is outta gear befor you exit the vehicle!!!
not that hard
you can also save and just make a ground sensor on the gear shifter--- so if the car is in gear it will "see" ground and thus not start
as for the ignition interlock that can be bypassed by most remote starts systems by using a relay and some info!

You guys crack me up.
The company I work for makes 1000s of [edit: manual transmission] remote starters, adn alarm starter combos every year.
the 2 years I have been here, there has only been 2 claims against us for vehicles starting in gear. Both times the customer has "gone out of their way' to have the car start in gear.
The first guy stayed in the car after ready mode was completed and then put the car into first, then hit the start button. can you guess what happened next? needless to say he paid for the damages to his car and the garage door he drove through.
The second guy did almost the same thing, but he left the window open and put the car into gear from the outside. with pretty much the same results.
If you follow the instructions on one these things you see that they are pretty much fool proof.
Once the vehicle is left running off the remote start, and all access points are closed, then the module shuts down, and allows remote starting, until an access point is violated.
How ever, because of the fuct up lawyers, and the sue (sp?) happy nature of the U.S. we dont sell manual transmission starters or combo units to the US market.
A good point was rasied about the oem remote not working while the car running off the remote starter.
why would you want to carry 2 remotes around when you should only have to carry one?
Here in Canada for what your asking: a remote starter for a manual tranny honda would run you ( with locks and oem alarm and transponder bypass) around 350 to 400 $ full rocket at a retailer. In US money thats like just over 2 bills.
