tires?
What's a "semi slick?"
Common DOT-rated competition tires:
Toyo RA-1
Hoosier R3S03 (road race) and A3S03 (autocross)
Kumho Victoracer V700 and Ecsta V700
BF Goodrich G-Force (out of production) and R1 (WAY out of production)
Yokohama A032R
Yokohama A008 (really old)
Goodyear Eagle GS-CS (I think...)
I'm sure there are others...
A true "slick" is just that - not DOT rated and has no tread on it at all ever. These are generally reserved for pure race cars in competition classifications which specifically allow "slicks."

I just got my tire rack catalog yesterday and they have a couple of new competition tires, one by Pirelli and Yoko/Advan A032R Soft Compound, the old A032R is a Hard compound that they still offer.
Anyone Know why Tire Rack doesn't carry Toyo??

Of the DOT cert competition tires below, which would you recommend? I'm looking for something that doesn't have to be shaved or heat cycled prior to track use. I was looking at the Toyo RA-1. The other stipulation is that it's going on a 14" wheel and I realize that some of the tires listed aren't available in 14" sizes. Also, any thoughts on the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup?

For a first time DOT R-Compound tire I think the Kumho V700 Victoracer is the best choice because it is affordable, reliable, and potentially stickier than several of the other choices (even more expensive ones... A032R and RA-1 particularly.)
I would skip the Hoosiers and the Michelins at first due to cost, and due to the fact that until you have gotten used to R-Compound tires you may not be able to use them to their full potential.
Prepare to waste 2+ sets of the Kumhos while you get your car and your skillz together, then move on to other stuff if you feel the need to.
All IMHO, hope it helps-
