Hello all. If someone can help I would be very thankful.

my brother has a 94' 4dr civic and he broke the hood latch, I'm really broke it, the cable and everything. how can I get the hood open to be able to fix this????

Just reach through the grill and do it manually.

he said its 94 the hood meats bumper id say pull it up and try to undo the 2 bolts that are 10mm on the assembly and just bring it all up. You dont wana pry and break anything

 

Im 6'4 bout 235. My arms are fat. My cable broke last weekend and here is what we did:

Remove lower mud guard thingy. Mine was already gone.

Jack up front of car

Have friend pull out on front bumper from the bottom

Crawl under the car w/ a flashlight and a long flathead screwdriver

Wedge your arm up and find the hood latch

Hit the lever with the screwdriver and you are done

Construct new bootleg hood popper like me

i've tried to do what you said and i don't see how i could get to the latch from under the car. unless you don't have a reinforcment bar behind the front bar and you reached up between the front bar and radiator?

I love when people get attitudes with people who are helping them... mike told you how he did it, go under there and figure it out. the bottom of your bumper is held on by two 10mm bolts. Undo em, and have a friend pull the bumper away from the car. Jack the car up, get under there, get dirty, and get done. If you have to, just completely remove the hood latch till you figure your problem out.. should be three 12mm bolts.

 

have you tried doing what miketx described? i have and until you have, you will know what i'm talking about when i say its hard to reach the latch using the method he used.

just coz my avatar says noob doesn't mean i am one. iloveek replied with a comment which did no help at all but state the obvious and increase his post count by one.

i'll describe why it's hard to get to the latch.
1) between the front bar and radiator is a reinforcment bar so it blocks access to the latch.
2) if you go from underneath and try to reach the latch with a screwdriver, there is metal on the radiator support blocking the path to the latch.

if you can get access to an eg, have a look and see for yourself before you reuse someone elses information.
