Default Dyno Plot for completely built Toda Powered B18C!

Took a trip down to Sugar Hill, GA to have my car tuned with Hondata after the rebuild. Ed was the dyno tuner and I would have to say I am unimpressed with his tuning. As soon as I got there I told him the car had NO tuning done since the rebuild and hasn't been in VTEC. He said he wanted to do a base run and that he would "watch it" . So he strapped her to the dyno and did a run all the way to 9000rpm! and it put down 187.9. Next we took out the Skunk2 Chipped OBD1 ECU and replaced it with the Base program of the Hondata S100 and ran a dyno run of 184. We replaced the plug wires and put in the 310 injectors and dynoed 193(no tuning on the Hondata yet). Ed the dyno tuner told me he didn't feel in his experience that tuning camgears yeilded much power, because the cams work best where the company ground them. I told him the Toda B's are hard to tune and that I'd appreciate it if he would atleast try the camgears. So he advanced the intake cam 1 degree and he said we lost power so he put the cams back to (0,0). After ~2 hours of tuning and lots of money later we hit 196 on our last run. So 3 hours and $800 from the time we got there we got an increase of 9hp from a fully built untuned motor that theoretically should have produced over 200 whp with proper tuning. Please notice on the most recent dyno how the power drops off significantly after the peak at ~8000.

Here are the plots for my GSR:
Sorry for the pic sizes I'll change them if they are too annoying.
The plots are as follows:

Old Low Numbers with ITR AEM CAI, Skunk2 Manifold, JDM 4:1, Carsound Cat, Tanabe-CatBack with no dyno tuning. The Old Higher numbers are after Toda Spec B's, valetrain components, VAFC and dyno Tuning.

NEW Lower Numbers are a Base run after the break-in period for the Rebuild with the addition of 11.5 ITR IB Weisco pistons(~12:1 CR in GSR), Spoon TB, ITR Valves. The Higher numbers are after removal of the VAFC addition of Hondata and RC 310cc injectors.

Yeah, you dont even need cam gears with Toda cams.....cough...cough...
I know you spent lots of money already...and we have already talked about where you should go for tuning.... Last years race car, on pump gas, spec Cs and stock internals, saw similar numbers as yours with the Wisecos (11.8, right) and Crowers.
Can you sit down without any pain...?

The tuner said I'm having a problem flowing air at the top end and that is why I peaked at 8000 and my power fell off like that. Do you think the cam gears alone would be enough to fix the problem. I've already gone the root of Hondata and have blown the cash. Next step would be to do a port and polish but I'm not ready to drop the cash so close to a rebuild. I may go looking for a test pipe though.

Find another tuner dude, you should be pushing more power than that.

Tuner sucks. Post all of his information so none of us make the same mistake. Then do like Pinhead and buy an LS1 car.

No tuning the cams? WTF, you definetly need a better tuner. I am going to the dyno this week w/ Sgt and my somewhat similar Toda package. I'll post the results when I get them. I can guarantee he'll laugh when he sees this post. Why in the world would you leave the cams at 0,0? Why even bother getting adjustable gears then, lol. Not your fault, but you need to get someone who knows a little more about the components, IMO.

Looks like it hits a plateau at 7,800 rpm, which is typical of a restriction in the exhaust system, or a need for additional fuel(injectors could be sticking open).

When I tuned my Toda cams with stock compression I ended up with the cam gears at +5, -5 as a best sacrifice of high end and mid-range power. I had little to no change at +1, -1, retuning was done after changes to the cam gears, and 440cc/min injectors were used due to the better atomization of fuel and lower duty cycle.

Okay you guys listen up.

First of all, Bs dont make much past 8000. That the nature of the cam.

Second,is this list right?

Honda 4-1 header?
AEM Intake?
Stock GSR head?
Tanabe Exhaust?

All 4 are restrictions.

Those numbers are about right imo. Actually quite good if you ask me.

ditto.

Ed is actually a very friendly guy and good at tuning... I especially like the partial throttle tuning he does on the dyno.
