Help! ZC Tranny emergency!
OMG Swapping an engine is the biggest headache in the world!
So I found a site that told me the ZC trannys clutch was a '89 Civic DX one. Well today I tried putting my tranny back on and it won't go. I counted the DX clutches splines and it is 20 splines, and then the ZC's shaft is 21. So I am fucked now. I need to go and get another clutch now. But what clutch has 21 splines and will fit onto my ZC???

ok ... it all depends on which flywheel you have ... since you have the transmission with 21 splines, you have an 88 tranny. so.. if you're using an 88 or 89 flywheel, you just get a clutch from an 88 crx si, that way the spline count matches up and the size of the clutch is right for the flywheel. if you're using a 90 or 91 flywheel, i dont exactly remember which clutch you use, but i *think* it is an 88 accord or something like that. as for distinguishing flywheels, the 90-91 flywheel takes a 212 mm clutch, and the 88-89 takes a 200 mm clutch. make sure you know exactly what you have AND need to get before you go out and buy something, because from my experience returning parts is a biatch.
edit: i have an 88/89 flywheel if you need it ... 5 bucks and its yers, you seem to be pretty local, but im away in college right now (salisbury) so i couldnt get it to you if you wanted it until this weekend .. which would simplify things (could just go with 88 crx si clutch pack ... although bigger is better 212 > 200 mm

That's funny I ran an 89 dx clutch/pressure plate/tranny on a zc for over 2 years on the zc flywheel and it's been working perfectly. So it does work, your just probably putting it in wrong
OK I got an 88 CRX Si clutch kit. Clutch splines are 21 which fits fine. Pressure plate doesn't bolt up for **** though, the 89 DX one did. Throwout bearing for the '89 DX worked fine. So I basically need to piece this thing together or something.

hey i got a zc too. the zc trannnys have the gears or something like that on opposite sides becuase its a JDM tranny and not a USDM tranny. for that reason NO dx,Si or any other d-series clutch will work. also the splines are off like you said. wen u get a clutch tell them its for a zc tranny and its 21 spline and u will be all set. it was a pain for me to but i eventually got it.

Dammed if you aren't 100% correct. I feel like a jackass. The pressure plate bolted right up once I turned it a different way. Now only thing is I have the major problem that my clutch came with no ******* alignment tool and none of the local stores have one that even resembles it.

ps f the alignment tool it was a pain in the *** trying to find the one that matches up good luck with everything else

I've always been able to feel the clutch disk around the edges of the pressure plate and center it that way. works great. if you wanna run a 90-91 flwheel and pressure plate you need a 88 accord disk. works great.
