Default B16A2 into 88 HF

Hello all,

I've been searching pretty hard for this information and it doesnt seem to exist, everyone just recommends b16a1s for crx's, i happened to get a free b16a2(bad rod) that i'm going to repair and i want to put into my newly acquired HF... I have the complete wire harness from the del sol the motor came from, what would i need to make this work...a resistor box? and wiring to cluster somehow?.. there are quite a few writeups on DX or HF harnesses to b16 conversions however.. i dont have that harness, i only have a vtec del sol harness... so this seems to be another OBD0-OBD1 question,.. but i couldnt find any information explaining anyone actually doing this.. everyone just put B16A2's into 92+ civics,, any info would be great, i'm looking to get started ASAP on this.. thanks

use obd0 wiring, injectors, and resistor box. and a b16a1 distributor, and ecu. you can convert your usdm b16a2 to obd0 to make wiring easier...if im not mistaken the 88hf should only need a few extra connections for the vtec engine, its not an mpfi swap like the dx.

if you dont have the engine wiring harness from the hf...get one. check ebay, or i have the uncut wiring harness, injectors, and injector resistor box for sale. i am going to ebay it and havent yet....let me know if you are interested. its easier than converting everything to obd1.

are you planning on using a cable or hydro tranny?

i have a friend who did this swap...jdm b16a(2) (kept obd0) with a jdm ys1 cable tranny with lsd...it worked out good.

Thanks alot for your response, it really cleared up a few things for me.. since i'm not so familiar with bseries,, i'm an hseries fellow myself... anyhow, i hope to go with the hydro tranny it just feels alot smoother than cable in my opinion,, are there any complications that could pop up with that?.. i actually have a question about the obd's and what not... what in essence does the car follow? what needs to be swapped or change to convert things to obd1 etc.. ? hopefully i can find this information and document it a little better, because i've been having trouble finding it..

also, please contact me ASAP for that harness and injectors, if we can work out a price i will buy it off you.. thanks

thanks again for your reply..

for whatever reason i cant respond to your IM, this thing tells me i dont have permission to IM, no biggie.. anyhow i thought i'd let you know what the deal was with my car.. turns out its not an HF like i had thought .. when i picked it up its a dx.. so i'd have to do the multipoint unfortunately, although something good that came from it is that the b16 i recieved is in alot better condition than i had expected.. its time to piece me together a swap! i will be staying obd0, my only problem is finding a transmission now..

whats the difference between nonobd and obd1 injectors?..

how do i become a non-trial user?

I have found a transmission from a 1991 LS integra,, they are asking 350$, is this a reasonable price for this transmission? Also what type of performance will i get from this, everyone says its pretty bad, since b16 is torqueless and this is for a bit larger motor... ? anyone have this setup?

LS tranny would be SLOW... click the link in my signature and it tells you all the gear ratios for B-series transmissions. I went with an S1.

i believe that the obd1 injectors are saturated where the nonobd injectors are peak and hold style. i think this is a rule of thumb...there are exeptions...like 92-96 prelude vtec injectors are peak and hold.

if you would still like, the hf wiring harness i have for sale should work to do your MPFI swap...it includes the nonobd injectors and injector resistor box. as far as i know the Hf injectors are the same size as the Si ones...240cc/min. somebody tell me if im wrong though.

im not sure if $350 is a good price though...you might want to look around a bit. you could also call different places that sell engine swaps and see if you could get just a JDM cable tranny of your choice. ive got a sheet with all the "JDM trannies" (thats got 2 meanings!) and ratios around somewhere...i can look for it.

yes i'm currently looking for another transmission, hopefully newman has a good price on a hydro tranny and i can somehow slap it into this car although its seemingly impossible, worse case scenario i'll have an ultra slow crx ..

if i use the HF resistor box and harness it should just work okay correct? would there be anything i would have to do to get it to work with the chasis at all?.. if this works i think it would be alot easier than having to rewire entirely for MPFI from DPFI
