How to prep OEM skirt for painting ?
Just bought a OEM skirt kit for my 99 GS, but I need to paint it a different color. I am going to get it professionnally done, but wanted to sand it and prime it so I can save a few $$. How do I do it ????
I would prime it, thats an area that is going to get a lot of rocks thrown at it and tons of feet scrapping against it. Any thing you can do to make the paint more solid and flake free, the better.

For best look you can use either 320 wet or scothbrite pads work as well clean it with some wax and grease remover before you start sanding then sand it then wax and grease again then I would prime it and sand the primer with 600 grit and then if you didnt sand through the primer anywhere you can just wax and grease it again and then basecoat and then the clear if you go thorugh I would prob seal it then proceed. Is that why the walls in my house havent rusted?... heh
I think youre referring to rustoleum.
Priming makes the paint adhere to the surface.
Be sure to mix in flex additive to prevent the paint from cracking.

NOOOOOOOO, you have got it all wrong. you DO NOT need SAND any ABS plastics unless you are repairing it. If you do sand it, it will leave a wierd look when painted (kinda rough look and sometimes you can't make the plastic sit correctly.
This is ALL you have to do:
1. wash part with dish soap (stuff that removes grease) and let dry
2. use SEM plastic prep, you may also use SEM vinyl prep. this makes the surface soft and adhere to paint
3. use "bulldog" paint adhesive or SEM Sand Free.
4. when you paint it using a spray gun, just dont put too much hardener in the clearcoat. (you do not need any type of flex paint or special thing)
5. if you spray paint it, then just follow the directions on the can. < this will not give you the best finish.
SEM is a brand of paint supplies. If you are still confused, i would suggest having a pro do it if you want a professional finish.
hope this helps.

since you are going to get is professionally done, just don't do anything to it because you will just make it worse for them if you do something wrong. you will end up paying more. IMO.
