- Those with CAM GEARS
I just had some Skunk2 cam gears installed and now I hear some whining noise. I'm pretty sure its related to 1 belt or another. I'm just curious does anyone else hear any belt noises? Or did my mechanic possibly tighten my other drive belts too much? Its not really loud at all, it sounds like a small electric motor type noise that varies with the RPMS.
Are your cam gears covered with the oem plastic cover? If your cam gears aren't covered up then they will make a little extra noise. I noticed that when I had cam gears with a cut valve cover that it was a little louder.

You mean tension on my other drive belts right? As for the cam gears, the valve cover is UNcut and the timing belt cover is still on. So its just like stock right now with the exception that the cam gears are inside.

Would the design of the cam gears alone make noise just spinning?? Or is my timing belt most likely too tight? Is it neccessary to loosen the timing belt tensioner to install the cam gears?

I have skunk gears

and no noise there
just like everybody says to tight
or your tension pulley is about to go away
check it asap before you break the timming belt

at idle there seems to be no sound. But when you rev the car like the other guy said, it kinda sounds like a supercharger whining... but really low volume. Its not REAL loud or anything, it just that its a NEW sound for me and I'm just checking if its considered normal or should I worry about something.

Just readjusted the timing belt tension... well actually loosened it. The sound is gone, thanks guys.
