High mileage; what to look out for?
************EDIT************
I talked to the guy again, and he confirmed that the car actually has 235,000 KILOMETERS on the odometer and the engine was rebuilt at 195,000 KMS. So it isn't nearly as bad, he also put on a new timing belt a month ago, and is including some steelies as an extra set of wheels. It is also $8000 Canadian, and around where I live CRXs go for quite a bit. $8000 CDN is about $5000 USD. I don't know whether I should get this CRX and not have to worry about it anymore, or not buy it and wait for something better to come along (near or far), and get it shipped or something.

PRICE EXAMPLES IN MY AREA:***********************************
Here are some 88-91 Civic/CRX price examples in my area:
91 Civic Si, $5000 w/ smaller stereo, LS rims, some rust on quarter panels, and rocker panels, and underneath.
91 Civic Si, someone offered him $8900. Was in a wreck, had new paint, gay looking flame stripe, 17" rims, ractive exhaust, and CAI intake. Low km engine. Smaller stereo.
90 Civic Si, bought stolen for $10,000. Had B16 swap, exhaust, intake, 16" Enkei Racing rims, clear corners/bumper lights, and half assed wiring job and painted interior. SIR wing, and lowered. maybe more.
91 CRX Si, stock, cd player, alarm, excellent condition, many new parts ad says. $7900 (already sold)
89 CRX Si, stock, replaced floorboards, rocker panels, and some other smaller parts. $7900
91 CRX Si, 17" rims, new engine, custom paint, WW front bumper, says too many mods to list. $12,000
89 CRX Si, new m3 yellow paint(dont want a yellow car) $5900, rebuilt engine, 5 spoke ugly rims, exhaust, intake, nice body, clarion stereo, and mechanically sound.
88 CRX DX, (88CRX's car), ZC engine/tranny, but body needs work. $6500
************************************************** **
Theres an 88 CRX Si around where I live with 235,000 MILES it says, the guy wants $8000, it has only a SMALL amount of rust by the sunroof and the rest of the car is rust free. He put on 16" Enkei rims, lowered it 2", has an alarm, new muffler, and a stereo (Pioneer MP3 deck, Rockford Fosgate 900 watt amp, fosgate speakers, and 2 Kicker Comp subs). He claims that the engine runs great and everything. I still have yet to look at it.

There is another CRX Si that has 188,000 kms, with that welded in floor i posted about before, going for $7900. Its stock besides some 17" wheels.
Prices are rediculous around here.

wow for $8000 in hawaii you can an extremely clean crx with low miles with a swap and turbo. and better sounds than that too. kicker comps are the lowest grade of kicker i think... those are some whack prices

Keep looking, both of those cars are waaay overpriced. Get a hatchback if you have to.
Edit: With that many miles, everything is suspect. Check over the suspension (bushings and struts are probably shot) and drivetrain (paying close attention to the condition of the synchros in the transaxle). I personally would stay away from that car because of the ridiculous price.

LMFAO! Did the guy smoke crack before offering you that price? There is no one in their right mind that would pay that for his car. Look around, There is much better out there if you want to buy something for $8,000.
damn, for $8000 I would expect a 88 crx to have pretty low miles to be sold at that high a price....I saw one in the autotrader a while ago for $4200 and it only had 72,000 miles and it was a 90 Si. I would never pay $8000 for a crx with just rims, springs and a stereo......
There are a few things to look out for.
Suspension condition is a good indication of how hard a cars life has been.
Also check the doors for sag, the locks, condition of interior, etc. That will give you an idea how much use the car has actually had.
And DAMN, 8k? thats insane. Keep in mind that it only costs less than 1,000 to get a car shipped, so look elsewhere.

check the seat belts to see if they retract well, especially if they are in the door(90-91 i believe).
why not just buy a CRX off of http://www.ebaymotors.com and pay the $800 or so to have it shipped to you?
why does everyone try to sell them for so much up there?
